Hello Windows Insiders, today we’re releasing Windows 11 Build 26100.1586 (KB5041865) to Insiders in the Release Preview Channel on Windows 11, version 24H2 (Build 26100).

Below is a summary of the new features and improvements included as part of this update.

[ADDED 8/20] Gradual rollout​

These might not be available to all users because they will roll out gradually. Text bolded in brackets indicate the area of the change being documented.
  • [Taskbar]
    • The End task option no longer shows a not responding dialog before it stops a task. This option is only available when you turn on End task in Settings > System > For Developers.

    • A memory leak occurs when you interact with archive folders.
    • File Explorer stops responding when you browse within it.
    • When you search from Home for the first time, you might not get any results.
    • The address bar dropdown menu might appear when you do not expect it.
    • When you use the Save dialog to save a file to Gallery, an error occurs. Because of this update, your file saves to the Pictures library instead.
    • The search box does not show the correct folder name when you are in Gallery.
    • A blank area shows at the top of File Explorer.
    • The back and forward mouse buttons do not work when you hover over the Recommended Files section of Home.
    • Images flash when you view them in the Gallery.

  • [FrameShutdownDelay] The browser ignores its value in the “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main” registry key.
  • [Domain Name System (DNS)] A deadlock occurs in the domain controller (DC) when it starts up in the DNS client.
  • [OpenSSH] This update adds a prompt that asks you to confirm when you turn on OpenSSH using the Server Manager UI.

Weird, 26120.xxxx is Dev channel, I'm at 26120.1542 on Dev, while on Release Preview channel I have 26100.1586.
Looks like your insider channels are mixed up. 😵‍💫😂🤷‍♂️

26120.1542 on Dev Channel, based on 26100 + the enablement pack KB5037898. Check your insider channel to see which one you are on.
26100 and 26120 use the same base code of 26100, the difference is just the enablement pack that makes it 26120.
if you have 26120.1586 you are ahead of the current Dev build which is currently 26120.1542. 😎🤷‍♂️
Both channels show Version 24H2.

You could probably uninstall the enablement pack after deleting the registry key WindowsSelfHost and be back to 26100.1586, then rejoin Release Preview insider channel and you will be in sync with a current R.P. build.

I find all these different version numbers of Windows confusing. What will be the final build number of 24H2? I am on 26100 but there's 26120 and other variants too.

26100 is the 24H2, 26120 is based on 26100.
Who knows? It may become the 25H2 when it is ready. 🤣🤣🤷‍♂️

26100 is currently 24H2 for Copilot PCs, and in release preview for other PCs.
26120 is Dev build of 24H2

It's *possible* that 26120 will be the released version in October, using an enablement pack to updatre to this build

I was able to finally go to the Release Preview Insider's to move to 24H2, to UPGRADE my22635 BETA Insiders to 26100.1150. Upgraded the RP to 26100.1586 successfully through Windows Update afterward.

So, I'm in the 26100 RP forum now...;) Everything is working great! I just wanted to get out of 23H2 and move to 24H2 in the RP builds, and here I am...so far so good! I do not anticipate going back into the Beta builds--as of Oct 1, 2024, I've been an insider for ten years exactly--most of that in the Beta channel...;) Time for a change!

Unless Beta moves to 24H2 you won't be able to go back to that channel, the only other Insider options for 24H2 are Dev or canary

Well, actually, I have a Macrium Reflect backup of the Beta 23H2 version c:/ partition with an easy Macrium restore, so actually I can go back anytime I want--but that's not the plan, in switching. I now have a backup of c:/ with this 24H2 build, too, but backing up C:/ with Macrium has been a long habit of mine as you never know when something might happen to foul your present installation. I keep at least two backups of past and present builds on hand, as it's a good policy, I think. At least it has served me well in these Insider builds. Not interested in Dev or Canary as I was on Dev for awhile with 23H2 Beta channel builds. Some builds were so buggy I couldn't use them and so couldn't test them. Going to RP relieves me of that particular stress...;)

I think they are referring to the Task Manager color bug that was previously reported with 26100.1350.
I only see this ID 50557073 enabled, not the other 2 mentioned earlier. 🤷‍♂️
The colors in T.M. look fine.

I can live with the slightly different colors in TM/Performance... I mean, I can see the info I want, so the colors are no concern.
