Insider KB5045889 Windows 11 Insider Beta build 22635.4440 (23H2) - Nov. 1

UPDATE 11/08:

 Windows Blogs:

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4440 (KB5045889) to the Beta Channel.

Changes in Beta Channel builds and updates are documented in two buckets: new features, improvements, and fixes that are being gradually rolled out for Insiders who have turned on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available (via Settings > Windows Update*) and then new features, improvements, and fixes rolling out to everyone in the Beta Channel. For more information, see the Reminders section at the bottom of this blog post.

New features gradually being rolled out to the Beta Channel with toggle on*

Modernized Windows Hello

At Microsoft, we are committed to security and enhancing user experiences. As part of this commitment, we launched enhanced passkey features in September 2023 and are now revamping the Windows Hello user experience. This represents a significant update to Windows Hello, aligning it with contemporary Windows visual design standards. The primary focus is on making authentication intuitive and seamless.

Modernized Windows Hello Visual Communication: The updated Windows Hello visuals are designed to facilitate fast and clear communication and appear on the Windows Sign-in screen as well as other authentication flows such as passkey, Microsoft Store and many more.

Revamped Windows Hello credential user experience for passkeys and the new administrator protection experience: We redesigned Windows security credential user experiences for passkey creating a cleaner experience that supports secured and quick authentication. Users will now be able to switch between authentication options and select passkey/devices more intuitively.

This experience will also apply for the new administrator protection feature ccoming to Windows 11, version 24H2 and higher and currently in preview with Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel.

FEEDBACK: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Security and Privacy > Passwordless experience.

Changes and Improvements gradually being rolled out to the Beta Channel with toggle on*

[General]

  • This update includes a small set of general improvements and fixes that improve the overall experience for Insiders running this build on their PCs.

[Input]

  • We have temporarily disabled the new Gamepad keyboard layout for the on-screen keyboard in Windows 11 that began rolling out to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel with Build 22635.4145 to address some issues. This feature will be roll out again in a future flight.

Fixes gradually being rolled out to the Beta Channel with toggle on*

[Input]

  • Fixed an underlying issue causing touch keyboard crashes and the IME candidate window to not appear for some Insiders in the previous flight.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel

  • Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel will receive updates based on Windows 11, version 23H2 via an enablement package (Build 22635.xxxx).
  • Many features in the Beta Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
  • For Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel who want to be the first to get features gradually rolled out to you, you can turn ON the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available via Settings > Windows Update*. Over time, we will increase the rollouts of features to everyone with the toggle turned on. Should you keep this toggle off, new features will gradually be rolled out to your device over time once they are ready.
  • Features and experiences included in these builds may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. Features may change over time, be removed, or replaced and never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
  • Some features in active development we preview with Windows Insiders may not be fully localized and localization will happen over time as features are finalized. As you see issues with localization in your language, please report those issues to us via Feedback Hub.
  • Because the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths from our engineers, there may be cases where features and experiences show up in the Beta Channel first.
  • Check out Flight Hub for a complete look at what build is in which Insider channel.
Thanks,
Amanda & Brandon

@hsehestedt wrote a excellent tool that can display the version of the WinRE from the ISO itself which I haven't tried yet as I am still building my 22635.4440 UUP Dump ISO as I am writing this. In that same thread, it is also seen that the ISO as in the case with Release Preview, the ISO build is actually newer than the WinRE.
I think you can already see the version from the UUPDUMP ISO with a dism command.

dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:E:\sources\install.wim /index:1

Their WimRE is always the same level as the Build#. 😉

B.T.W.
reagentc /disable is not good for the purpose of keeping the whole recovery on the C: volume it actually gives very limited recovery options and no command prompt. 😂

LOL, my system just made it to adding the WinRE to the ISO build...

I had never used WinRE with reagentc /disable as this was what I read @cereberus and others work, ofcourse it never said how it actually worked or if it was limited.

The operation completed successfully.

So not sure if the Build shown is for the WinRE or just the OS in general.

As it's similar to in PowerShell:
$ubr_version =(Get-ItemProperty "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion").UBR
echo "$ubr_version"

will show the current installed build but not the WinRE build as the WinRE build will always use 22621 and not 22635.

That is for the OS, but I think UUPDUMP usually matches the same for WinRE too. Should be 22621.4440, the base Build is still 22621. 😎🤷‍♂️
Different story for MS official ISOs, they are usually way behind. 😂🤷‍♂️

The tool is in the post here under option 2. What I meant was it seems the UUP Dump is in post #115 in that thread, the UUP Dump ISO for the latest released version of 24H2 (26100.2161), the WinRE actually lags behind at 26100.2003 and not 26100.2161 and also confirmed by post #120 in that same thread.

In the last screenshot above, is that actually a Windows Update or a ISO install?

The 22621.4440 WinRE was an Update in place with UUPDUMP ISO. The .4440 matches the Build 22635.4440.

I already showed earlier the one done with Windows Update which was 22621.4305. 😎🤷‍♂️

I did not try UUPDUMP ISO 26100.2161. It may just be an anomaly. 🤷‍♂️
There are 2 different ones on 10/24 and 10/28.
1730655198646.png

You just saw that in this Beta the WinRe and the Build are both are .4440. 😉

This one on Build 26100.2161, was updated with W.U. from 26100.1742. WinRE shows 26100.2003. 🤷‍♂️
1730645307755.png

This is building from uupdump 26100.2161, this time WinRE is still updated just to 26100.2003. 😂🤷‍♂️
Never consistent results. 🤣

I kept on searching through a lot of angry, frustrated posts and eventually found how to "switch off" copilot in Office 365 (I don't have Copilot installed in Windows). In my case, I open Word then navigate to Account Settings - Privacy Settings and uncheck the following two options:

This replaced my Linux Notebook. I've used Windows since V2, tried various Linux distros but Windows continues to win for me.
I kept on searching through a lot of angry, frustrated posts and eventually found how to "switch off" copilot in Office 365 (I don't have Copilot installed in Windows). In my case, I open Word then navigate to Account Settings - Privacy Settings and uncheck the following two options:
In my case those 2 options are set on, but they don't cause any problem using word. 🤷‍♂️
Maybe because I'm not a 365 subscriber and I never log in to office. 😂🤞

After editing my documents for a while, I realised that the "All connected experiences" option needs to be checked, if you're using Onedrive, which I am. No big deal. I turned it back on. The CoPilot symbol does continue to show on new lines but disappears as soon as I type, so not a problem.

View attachment 115117

You just saw that in this Beta the WinRe and the Build are both are .4440. 😉

This one on Build 26100.2161, was updated with W.U. from 26100.1742. WinRE shows 26100.2003. 🤷‍♂️

This is building from uupdump 26100.2161, this time WinRE is still updated just to 26100.2003. 😂🤷‍♂️
Never consistent results. 🤣

I think a big problem is Microsoft does not do things like they say:
What is interesting is Microsoft here says under the "Check the WinRE image version", it does say the following:
"Make sure that the ServicePackBuild is greater than or equal to the UBR for the update that you added. For example, for Windows 11, version 22H2, the November security update would show 819 as the SerivcePack Build, since full version number for that update is 22621.819.

If the version reported is an earlier version, this indicates the Windows RE image is not up to date.
If the reported version is the same or a later version, no action is needed."

UBR I would assume is basically the installed build of the OS so it seems for Windows Update, WinRE from both what you posted and my expereince here, the last time Windows Update updated WinRE was with 22635.4305.

Onedrive allows me to have access to the latest files across multiple PCs in real time. I also backup locally as a precaution :-)

In this particular case of 26100.2161 the update in place with uupdump ISO 26100.2161 still used WinRE 26100.2003 which is the only update to WinRE that I saw applied when I built the ISO.
As for the tool to see directly the version of WinRE from the ISO, I'll pass for now, seems like an extra complication which I don't really need to install on my machines.

Building 26100.2161 ISO from uupdump took the longest time I ever experienced in several months.
A few hours just to build the ISO. 😂😝

Windows PE was updated to .2161, as it shows on CMD prompt when booting from the installation media. 😉

If I boot up in Recovery it still shows 26100.1. 😎

I have not used the tool yet either but I'll probably try it when I actually have some time available just to gain the experience of using it. Building the last 2-3 builds of Beta Insiders from UUP Dump seems to take forever. The other thing is Windows Update is supposed to keep the WinRE up to date because as seen in the thread where I wrote my last response here, it appears that unless the WinRE is 22621.4317 or later, Microsoft's security updates that claims a August 13, 2024 or later WinRE will fail so unless one installed from the UUP Dump ISO for versions after 22635.4305, they will not be able to apply the security update successfully without the system unable to boot back into Windows.
