Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.2222 (KB5046746) to the Dev Channel.

Changes in Dev Channel builds and updates are documented in two buckets: new features, improvements, and fixes that are being gradually rolled out for Insiders who have turned on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available (via Settings > Windows Update*) and then new features, improvements, and fixes rolling out to everyone in the Dev Channel. [General]​

  • If you hold Shift and CTRL when clicking on a jump list item in Start menu or taskbar, this will now launch that item as admin, just like if you were to do Shift + CTRL and click the app icon itself. For example, if you right-click on Windows Terminal, and hold Shift and CTRL when you click PowerShell, it would open a PowerShell window as admin.

Fixes gradually being rolled out to the Dev Channel with toggle on*​

[File Explorer]​

  • Fixed an issue causing the See More (“…”) menu to open in the wrong direction (and potentially display offscreen as a result).

[Input]​

  • Fixed an underlying issue which could cause the mouse to unlock from a game window on a system with multiple monitors after opening and closing Game Bar, so you couldn’t use it within the game.

[Windowing]​

  • Fixed a recent issue causing windows to potentially unexpectedly move around after waking from sleep if you had multiple monitors.

[Other]​

  • Fixed an underlying issue which could lead to Registry Editor going unresponsive if you pressed Alt after clicking on the license information in the About section.

Known issues​

[Narrator]​

  • [NEW] [IMPORTANT] There is an issue in this build which will cause Narrator to crash on launch if you use one of the natural voices (like Jenny). If you are a Narrator user, we recommend pausing updates from Settings under Windows Update > “Pause Updates”. If you do install this update and encounter this issue, switching to another voice, like Microsoft David, in Settings under Accessibility > Narrator will stop the crashes. As Narrator is crashing, you will need to use a secondary screen reader, or have someone assist in order to do this.

[Desktop]​

  • We’re working on the fix for an issue where your desktop background may not show correctly sometimes with multiple monitors (showing big black areas).

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel​

  • Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel receive updates based on Windows 11, version 24H2 via an enablement package (Build 26120.xxxx).
  • Updates delivered to the Dev Channel are in a format that offers a preview of enhancements to servicing technology on Windows 11, version 24H2. To learn more, see Introducing Windows 11 checkpoint cumulative updates | Windows IT Pro Blog.
  • Many features in the Dev Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
  • For Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel who want to be the first to get features gradually rolled out to you, you can turn ON the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available via Settings > Windows Update*. Over time, we will increase the rollouts of features to everyone with the toggle turned on. Should you keep this toggle off, new features will gradually be rolled out to your device over time once they are ready.
  • Features and experiences included in these builds may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. Features may change over time, be removed, or replaced and never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
  • Some features in active development we preview with Windows Insiders may not be fully localized and localization will happen over time as features are finalized. As you see issues with localization in your language, please report those issues to us via Feedback Hub.
  • Because the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths from our engineers, there may be cases where features and experiences show up in the Beta Channel first.

Done deal and good to see the "See More" 3 dots issue fixed and lets hope the fix is available this patch Tuesday for normal builds.

EDIT: After a restart the 3 dots issue returned I guess I have to wait for the gradual roll out.

Found and fixed the corrupted files that happen almost on every update, then ran clean on second pass. 😉
MS never gave an explanation about these specific files.
Why are they corrupted so often?

They still have a problem with the 3 dots menu of file explorer.
The blog states it is fixed, but the fix is only partial and works only with specific Scale and Resolution in the display setting.

  • Fixed an issue causing the See More (“…”) menu to open in the wrong direction (and potentially display offscreen as a result).
Here is one combination that still fails even with both recommended display settings for Scale and Resolution.
In this case if I use Scale of 100%, 200% and 300% it works correctly, but fails with all the other scales that are not multiple of 100%. 😝🤬🤷‍♂️

Just had the weirdest thing happen.

I right clicked a jpg image in 'Screenshots' folder and selected 'Open with Irfan View'. As soon as Irfan View opened a notification flashed up in the action centre area (Bell icon) and then immediately disappeared along with the icon before I had chance to read it.

Found that by turning on the 'Do not disturb' option I could get the bell back but crossed out. That allowed the notification to be retrieved which is this.

After hunting a little more I found an option to show the bell icon had been disabled by itself. Very very odd as all I was doing was opening Irfan View via a right click option but it instantly seemed to trigger the notification about resetting 'an app' whatever that was about. Re enabling the icon has brought it back.

Another of those silly MS experiments. Came together with the other useless "Show abbreviated time and date"
At least they gave the option to turn the bell back on and also uncheck the "Show abbreviated time and date". 😂🤷‍♂️

Is anyone a classic Outlook user here who also uses Dev? I've noticed the strangest thing for the last three Windows Dev releases: horizontal scrollbars in Outlook (for emails that are wide and should actually have that) are now missing. I know it's not the version of Outlook because the same version didn't have the problem on an older build of Win Dev. It's definitely Windows-driven, which I find odd. I confirmed this with another user, too, so it's not an edge case with me.

That would be expected if you don't have Office installed (or a version of Office that excludes Outlook).

You are correct, on this specific machine, I have this one below, I guess it does not include classic Outlook. 🤣🤷‍♂️
I never paid attention; I have Outlook on other 3 machines and I rarely used it.

I have a different MS Office version on this other machine which includes classic Outlook.
Yet, I really never use it for my personal email, I have a third-party client for that. 😉😂
I may give it a try later, but I'm afraid that my 2013 Office plus maybe too old and not supported anymore. 😝 🤷‍♂️
