Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5058528) - 22621.5334 and 22631.5334

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates. To learn more about SSUs, see Simplifying on-premises deployment of servicing stack updates.

Known issues in this update

Microsoft is not currently aware of any issues with this update.

How to get this update

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Install this update

To install this update, use one of the following Windows and Microsoft release channels.

AvailableNext Step
Included
This update downloads and installs automatically from Windows Update and Microsoft Update.
Yes 1To get the standalone package for this update, go to Microsoft Update Catalog.
1 This latest cumulative update includes update for AI components. Even though the AI component updates are included in the update, the AI components are only applicable to Windows Copilot+ PCs and will not install on Windows PC or Windows Server.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

File information

For a list of the files that are provided in this update, download the file information for cumulative update 5058405.

For a list of the files that are provided in the servicing stack update, download the file information for the SSU (KB5058528) - versions 22621.5334 and 22631.5334.

Here it is after using DISM with restorehealth parameter, multiple reboots and then reinstalling patch-Tuesday: This wasn't smooth, unlike the April patch-Tuesday! :ffs:

Issues with this update:

You may receive an AppReadiness error with the following error:

Code:
The Appx operation 'RegisterPackageAsync' on 'MicrosoftWindows.Client.CBS_1000.22700.1077.0_x64__cw5n1h2txyewy' failed for user 'S-1-5-21-3407992842-357079822-2026718286-1001' - Deployment Register operation with target volume C: on Package MicrosoftWindows.Client.CBS_1000.22700.1077.0_x64__cw5n1h2txyewy from: (AppxManifest.xml) failed with error 0x80070490. See http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=235160 for help diagnosing app deployment issues.. (Error: Install failed. Please contact your software vendor.)

Where Windows Update should have halted, there were multiple 0x80070490 error codes!

The update needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled, after using DISM with restorehealth option, if you receive AppReadiness errors for packages with that error code!

Did you check the event log for any errors resembling what I got? You most likely have to do the long steps above with 23H2. The odds of update failure, OTOH, are likely lower with 24H2.

In my case, it wasn't just "the Bluetooth file bug".

What I found:

For AppReadiness errors in Windows, follow these steps:

1. Open Event Viewer:
- Press `Win + X` and select “Event Viewer”.
- Or, press `Win + R`, type `eventvwr.msc`, and hit “Enter”.

2. Navigate to the AppReadiness logs:
- In Event Viewer, expand “Windows Logs” on the left panel.
- Click “Application”.
- In the middle panel, look for entries related to “AppReadiness”. These are usually labeled under the “Source” column.

3. Apply filters to find errors quickly:
- In the right panel, click “Filter Current Log”.
- Under “Event Level”, check “Error” and “Warning”.
- In the “Event sources” dropdown, look for “AppReadiness” and select it.
- Click “OK” to apply the filter.

4. Review details:
- Double-click any error or warning event to view its details.
- The “General” and “Details” tabs will provide more insights about the issue.

Where did you get this error, in the event viewer? Never mind, @antspants showed in great detail how to see that error ;-)

I'm no expert, but it looks like the error was caused by a permissions issue, doesn't it?

I have installed this update on a virtual machine without problems. But I will wait a bit on the main computer.

But it's not for 24H2, perhaps you're thinking about another update and posted in the wrong thread?
Yeah, it seems to be fine on 24H2, on my other PC. I suspect it's 23H2 with the bug.

This CU sounds like a hard pass for now given I've not seen this many problem reports for ages!
Glad I've still got WUMT to do this and avoid the headaches you're all having

It got invariably installed on my afresh PC straight from greenfield HP Recovery state and past upgrade to 22H2 and migration to 23H2 on its way, and on the same day - as it's all been happening in a jiffy.

Nothing to report really (early days - or hours even), no problems and side-efffects seen. Nonetheless I expect to be bumped to 24H2 shortly...

(and by the way: welcome all!)
