Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5065381)- 26100.4933

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates. To learn more about SSUs, see Simplifying on-premises deployment of servicing stack updates.

Known issues in this update

1 Error events are logged for CertificateServicesClient

Symptoms

After installing the July 2025 Windows non-security preview update (KB5062600) or a later update, including the August 2025 Windows security update, you might see the following error in Event Viewer related to CertificateServicesClient (CertEnroll):

The "Microsoft Pluton Cryptographic Provider" provider was not loaded because initialization failed.

This event appears with Error ID 57 and is logged every time the device restarts. It does not indicate a problem with any active Windows component. The event is related to a feature that is currently in development.

There is no impact to Windows functionality, and no action is required.

Workaround

This issue is addressed in KB5064081.

2 Install error with error code 0x80240069

Symptoms

The August 2025 security update (KB5063878) might fail to install with error code 0x80240069 when deployed through Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). WSUS enables servers with the WSUS role to defer, selectively approve, and schedule updates for specific devices or groups across an organization.

This issue is unlikely to affect home users, as WSUS is intended for use in business and enterprise environments.

Workaround

The issue affecting the Windows Update service for devices managed through Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) has been resolved. If you experienced this problem, refresh, and re-sync with WSUS to install this update.

A Group Policy had previously been released using Known Issue Rollback (KIR) to work around this issue. If you installed the special Group Policy, you could find it in Group Policy Management Editor under: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025 KB5063878 250814_00551 Known Issue Rollback

Organizations no longer need to install and configure this Group Policy to address this issue.

3 Network Device Interface streaming performance issue

Symptoms

After installing the August 2025 Windows security update (KB5063878), you might experience delays or uneven audio and video performance when using Network Device Interface (NDI) to stream or transfer feeds between PCs.

This issue affects streaming apps such as OBS Studio (Open Broadcaster Software) and NDI Tools, especially when Display Capture is enabled on the source PC. The problem can even occur under low-bandwidth conditions.

Workaround

This issue is addressed in KB5065426.

4 Unexpected User Account Control (UAC) prompt when doing MSI repair operations

Symptoms

A security improvement was included in the August 2025 Windows security update and later updates to enforce the requirement that User Account Control (UAC) prompt for administrator credentials when performing Windows Installer (MSI) repair and related operations. This improvement addressed security vulnerability CVE-2025-50173.

After installing the update, standard users might see a User Account Control (UAC) prompt in several scenarios.
  • Running MSI repair commands (such as msiexec /fu).
  • Opening Autodesk apps, including some versions of AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Inventor CAM, or when installing an MSI file after a user signs into the app for the first time.
  • Installing apps that configure per user.
  • Running Windows Installer during Active Setup.
  • Deploying packages through Manager Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr) that rely on user-specific "advertising" configurations.
  • Enabling Secure Desktop.
If a non-admin user runs an app that initiates an MSI repair operation without displaying UI, it will fail with an error message. For example, installing and running Office Professional Plus 2010 as a standard user will fail with Error 1730 during the configuration process.

Workaround

This issue is addressed in KB5065426.

DISM will use the folder specified in PackagePath to discover and install one or more prerequisite MSU files as needed.

Updating Windows PC

To apply this update to a running Windows PC, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:

DISM /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5063878-x64.msu

Or, run the following command from an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt:

Add-WindowsPackage -Online -PackagePath "c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5063878-x64.msu"

Or use Windows Update Standalone Installer to install the target update.

Updating Windows Installation media

To apply this update to Windows Installation media, see Update Windows installation media with Dynamic Update.

Note: When downloading other Dynamic Update packages, ensure they match the same month as this KB. If the SafeOS Dynamic Update or Setup Dynamic Update is not available for the same month as this KB, use the most recently published version of each.

To add this update to a mounted image, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:

DISM /Image:mountdir /Add-Package /PackagePath:Windows11.0-KB5063878-x64.msu

Add-WindowsPackage -Path "c:\offline" -PackagePath "Windows11.0-KB5063878-x64.msu" -PreventPending

Method 2: Install each MSU file individually, in order

Download and install each MSU file individually either using DISM or Windows Update Standalone Installer in the following order:
  1. windows11.0-kb5043080-x64_953449672073f8fb99badb4cc6d5d7849b9c83e8.msu
  2. windows11.0-kb5063878-x64_199ed7806a74fe78e3b0ef4f2073760000f71972.msu
1 This latest cumulative update includes updates for AI components. Even though the AI component updates are included in the update, the AI components are only applicable to Windows Copilot+ PCs and will not install on Windows PC or Windows Server.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

In this video, there's a game crash at the loading screen, then Windows 11 BSODs and reboots, then the drive is clearly not bootable!
A few days ago I had posted here about my primary Mini PC dying. This was EXACTLY the same symptoms that I saw before that system died. I don't really do gaming, but it was when running VMs that I encountered the problem. I run one VM for each insider build (Canary, Dev, Beta, and Release Preview). A couple of times a week I run all of them simultaneously and have them check for updates. It was always doing that when the VMs would freeze for a few seconds (just like it did for Jay when playing a game), and then a few seconds later it would BSOD. Also, just like for Jay, my system would not boot afterwards because the SSD could not be seen. I would have to power cycle before the SSD could be seen again.

That was happening for a week or two (not sure of exactly how long) and then the system finally just died entirely. It would no longer even power on. I suspect that to be an unrelated issue, although the timing sure does seem strange.

But now that I strongly suspect the SSD was encountering this issue, I'm going to try putting that SSD into another system just to see what happens.

That's why I"m still using Office 2010. :-)
That is also the main reason why I am still using Office 2021. 2024 is crap. I have looked at it (an illegal one on a VM) no any difference. Things that are errors for me isn't fixed. (Language related) And although my Windows 11 Pro is officially bought. (Was 10 first and got the opportunity to upgrade it to 11 for free I jumped at their offer!....) The one thing I noticed it; They see my official Office 2021 and still keeping nagging me to use Office 365 instead. Don't do that to me!!! I want to pay for an official one once!

I have bought several useful programs in the past which I can use for a lifetime. But then... An investor comes along and buys the company and in his eyes he sees money for the grabs. Changes everything and the product I bought isn't lifetime anymore; I have to pay them every year for using it. Go F yourselfs then!!! You broke the contract we have had before. They are there for the quick win. Hahahaha.... Their product nosedived from that moment. Everybody sought for other products that are free also. Bought once Daemon tools for a lifetime. Then the lifetime contract was broken. You have to pay for the same product every year. An other product (free of charge) came along and filled the gap; Uninstalled Daemon tools and installed the new and free product. That works as a charm. Just click on any ISO and it mounts it automatically. And no fuss about empty drives later on. Rightclick and unmount. WinCDEmu is free and filled the gap. Other products I have bought for a "lifetime" changed their policy's also; Windows manager (10 or 11 from Yamicsoft) is such a product. Had a lifetime license also until they broke it. No worry's then. Found a cracked version that wil download the latest version, crack it and tada a full functional version!.. No problems there. Those investors are the problem. They want money fast. Their are idiots and driving people away. I would rather sell a product by the millions for a small fee for a lifetime then asking money for it every year..... You broke that contract, not me...

25H2 was only for Insiders so far.
That was not my question. When would it be released to the public? It's coming for sure. But with witch KB? 24H2 is ready for making that switch. Many functions lay dormant under the hood. That KB release will pull the switch and tada.... 25H2. rubbish will hit the fans or not. I just want to make a backup before it so I can revert to it if rubbish hits the fan....

I don't thrust MS anymore since they released KB5063878. They are clueless with that Phison controller issue. They just said; "Windows 11 users with hard drives that are over 60% full are advised to avoid downloading, copying, or writing large files (tens of gigabytes)." and Phison just said we could not find a problem with our controllers also.... I went though my hardware and no Phison controllers here. I only bought expensive HDD, SSD, NVMe's. Manufacturers like Samsung and WD who don't sell these cheap controller rubbish mainly. What worry's me is that MS made some changes with their KB and now the rubbish hit's the fan they point at Phison and just says "not our problem" Yes it is. It is quite strange that after an KB update this problem occurs.

I am not affected but 25H2 now on the threshold to be released? I just turned my update setting to off. Let this storm fly by me until a solution has been found and who done it (or responsabele for it) is known. A bad day for MS and Phison. Phison looks clueless also other brands like "Corsair Force MP600, Maxio SSD, SanDisk Extreme Pro, Kioxia Exceria Plus G4, Kioxia M.2, and other drives with InnoGrit and Phison controllers." are also affected. Brands I don't want to buy. SanDisk was an surprise. Extremely reliable but then... don't. It also surprised JayzTwoCents on YT. His solution? Make a copy of your drive and stick it to a brand that's not affected. Problem solved. Easy to say if you already have hundreds of NVMe's lying arround. He is clueless as well....

When would it be released to the public?

Microsoft has publicly stated that it will be available next week including ISO images on the Windows Insider ISO images download page. As for more general rollout, who knows, although my guess would be that they might start general rollout on September 12 (Patch Tuesday).

Update: We have to keep an eye on this. In this video, there's a game crash at the loading screen, then Windows 11 BSODs and reboots, then the drive is clearly not bootable! As the UEFI-BIOS, goes right into setup mode! If the SSD isn't bootable, then you will need to power cycle the PC.
I watch his channel always. He is one independent guy who follows trends and makes sense. He (JayzTwoCents) and also CyberCPU Tech I follow. CyberCPU Tech is the critic one and gave tips. Fun to watch. But not all his advice is trustworthily enough to do so. He is a critic and likes to kick at big houses like Microsoft. He is a customerbuilder and like to turn all kind of Windows rubbish that nobody needs to turn off for his customers.

JayzTwoCents pointed recently to ChrisTitus for it's useful free CCT utility. Not for the faint of harts, It can F-up your system if you don't know what you are doing. Worth to take a look at; The Ultimate Windows Utility

Microsoft has publicly stated that it will be available next week including ISO images on the Windows Insider ISO images download page. As for more general rollout, who knows, although my guess would be that they might start general rollout on September 12 (Patch Tuesday).
Thanks for the heads-up. Will switch off the update mechanism before that time. Will make a full backup and store it somewhere save and watch the outcome after a couple of days what went wrong or not. After the F-up with KB5063878 and their answer; nothing wrong here but don't transfer big files anymore.... . I don't trust them anymore. This issue must be solved before any release. Especially for a major update like 25H2. Will download the ISO first and install it on a VM machine and watch...... and beat the crap out of that thing before I turn that update mechanism on again.

JayzTwoCents pointed recently to ChrisTitus for it's useful free CCT utility. Not for the faint of harts, It can F-up your system if you don't know what you are doing. Worth to take a look at; The Ultimate Windows Utility
Sorry. CCT is not free. It cost just $10.00. Just payed for it and will take a look at it.

The September, 2025 patch-Tuesday, is on the 9th.

So it is. It appears that I was looking at August on the calendar rather than at September. Thanks for catching this.

I am worried about using my PC now. My SSD I have my OS installed on, is one of the effected controllers. The XPG SX8200. Can you even uninstall the KB package? Or should I just wait it out?

Best advice that I can give is this: Make backups. Make them often. Keep more than one single backup. Backup to multiple different locations. Don't be that one person to make a backup only to find out that the one backup you have is bad, corrupted, etc.

Also, test your backups to make sure they work! For example, with a disk image backup program, you should be able to mount the image and verify that you can see all your data.

My primary system was affected by this problem, but the drive always became accessible again after a cold boot (just as with Jay in his video). But I had the misfortune of also running into another problem on that machine where it will now no longer even power on. So I got the double-whamy.

In my case, my SSD was never permanently damaged in any way, so recovery was easy, but I also have backups in at least 5 different places (some are just copies to different machines) so I was never in danger of losing anything.

But I had the misfortune of also running into another problem on that machine where it will now no longer even power on.
You said "Mini PC", so I usually assume micro-ATX, if not smaller! But, it sounds just like the fault that MSI B450 Tomahawk ATX motherboards have, where they suddenly stop powering up. No burning smell and it seems normal, but it won't power on when pressing the power button.

Was your symptom the same thing? No abnormal smell, but nothing happens when you press the power button, even with another PSU?

Another symptom: It's likely that it can be on, then it loses power and won't turn on again.

According to a list compiled by NichePCGamer, here are the SSD drives that until now have been reported to be influenced by the issue after installing the latest security updates;

Corsair Force MP600
Phison PS5012-E12 controller-equipped SSD
KIOXIA EXCERIA PLUS G4
Fikwot FN955
SSD with InnoGrit controller
Maxio SSD
KIOXIA M.2 SSD
SanDisk Extreme PRO M.2 NVMe 3D SSD
