Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 28000.1199 to the Canary Channel. (KB5068860)

What’s new in Build 28000.1199​

[General]​

  • This update includes a small set of general improvements and fixes that improve the overall experience for Insiders running this build on their PCs.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel​

  • The builds we release to the Canary Channel represent the latest platform changes early in the development cycle and should not be seen as matched to any specific release of Windows. Features and experiences included in these builds may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. Features may change over time, be removed, or replaced and never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
  • Many features in the Canary Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
  • Some features may show up in the Dev and Beta Channels first before showing up in the Canary Channel.
  • Some features in active development we preview with Windows Insiders may not be fully localized and localization will happen over time as features are finalized. As you see issues with localization in your language, please report those issues to us via Feedback Hub.
  • To get off the Canary Channel, a clean install of Windows 11 will be required. As a reminder – Insiders can’t switch to a channel that is receiving builds with lower build numbers without doing a clean installation of Windows 11 due to technical setup requirements.

i am currently running 26220.7271 and would like to switch to 28000.

question: is there a "guaranteed" way forward to a different channel (e.g. beta) at some point in the future? or could it happen that in e.g. half a year, a few builds later, i am stuck and have to reinstall?

Canary is often called Hotel California

"You can check-out any time you like
But you can never leave!"

As Canary's build is always ahead of Dev/Beta/RP, it is impossible to revert to other Insider Channels without doing a clean install.

You could dual boot Canary.

this also excludes "upgrade" with mounted iso of e.g. beta channel and install option keep data and settings (not sure if its called exactly that way)?

I'm sure you can keep your apps and files with a registry tweak. But normally, this is a clean install.

yeah, i once wanted to leave and figured out i had to do a clean install... sucked because i wanted to leave without a clean install, but now it doesn't matter, i;'m more experienced now, and no reason to leave the program anymore.

  • Fixed an issue resulting in fingerprint recognition not working for some Insiders after the latest flights.

Hopefully the same fix to Canary builds will fix things for you.

hmmm... so that is the issue. i was wondering. im in the canary channel build 28000, i guess i just wait for a fix then.

I do not make predictions and hate assumptions, in other words I haven't have a clue.
By the way, using Canary builds as a daily driver has never been recommended.

well aware. i love living on the edge when it comes to technology. however, i WILL perform a clean install if things start to go pear-shaped. i altready have a rescue drive ready in case.

This is my advice, and I think you get to have the best of both worlds, just my view though.

In the future, start a new installation from Dev, save the image.
Then from the Dev build, install Canary, save the image.
You then can switch back and forth at will and update them as they come accordingly.
Based on performance or bugs, you can select which one is best at that time.
Plus, you only need one MS license.

Better yet, the cutting edge of Windows has gotten so lame that I don't give a sh*t anymore! :cool:
