Updated: 19 May 2026 - Updated build numbers, fixing a few issues impacting Insiders in Release Preview after the previous flight, including:
  • Fixed an issue resulting in the audio volume being unexpectedly muted on certain devices
  • Fixed a Windows Push Notification service (WPN) hang, which could lead to some apps not launching and notifications not working.
These release notes are for Windows 11 Builds 26100.8514 and 26200.8514 26100.8521/26200.8521 (KB5089573) in the Release Preview Channel on Windows 11, versions 24H2 (Build 26100) and 25H2 (Build 26200).

This update is available through two release phases: gradual rollout and normal rollout. A gradual rollout delivers an update in phases, so features reach devices over time instead of all at once, meaning availability varies by device. A normal rollout is the broad release to all eligible devices at the same time, usually when it reaches general availability (GA).

If you choose to use a Windows Hello PIN three times in a row, we will stay with PIN until you switch to another sign-in method.

  • [Secure Boot] With this update, Windows quality updates include additional high confidence device targeting data, increasing coverage of devices eligible to automatically receive new Secure Boot certificates. Devices receive the new certificates only after demonstrating sufficient successful update signals, maintaining a controlled and phased rollout.

Did you try restarting the start menu? Did you try re-enabling the new menu to see if it works if the old one won't restart?
  • Open Task Manager
  • Go to the Details tab
  • Find StartMenuExperienceHost.exe
  • Right‑click → End task
  • It will automatically restart within 1–2 seconds

I found a problem. In this version of Microsoft, the menu of the old version of WIN11 has been removed. As long as you use the new version, the old version won't open

At least that gives you an alternate menu if you can't get the old one working again. Someone here may have an idea on how to activate the old style menu again if vivetool no longer works for you.

Yeah the issue is with the old menu being forced via Vivetool. I really hope they'll add those resizing options for the start menu quickly because the new one is horrendous. On a 4k C5 TV, it takes up like half of my screen if not more because it wastes so much space on nothing.

Anyone else getting this? It's Windows Push Notification service. I googled it and apparently it's been prevalent in the last few preview releases. This happens when I get a notification from Phone Link. To fix, I have deleted the notification database in %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows and rebooted. However the problem returns the very next time I get another notification from Phone Link. (example: a text)

It's not a show stopper, just an annoyance.

Edit: I have run SFC and DISM /restorehealth with no results.

See my post here, two PCs getting this problem since the weekend. All notifications stop working and a constant stream of errors

What's happening here?

Follow up post to the one I made Saturday about notifications not working and getting event log errors This is just from today, for every notification I get an error and no notification shows for any app. However if I log in to another user (local account) it's working fine The second PC here...

Well, I think I can confirm that.
On May 18, I created the USB installation after downloading from uup-dump Build 26200.8514 and that works just fine it does not have the problem that we get with the MCT 26200.8457.
Microsoft clearly screwed up something on that MCT process last week. I hope they get the message from the FBH reports and fix the stupid problem.

Notifications are working fine in 26200.8514, upgraded through 26220.8474, but I'm using StartAllBack 3.9.22, so that may be the reason. It would not be the first bug the software corrected in an Insider's build, coincidentally. Also, note that I have Notifications set to Do Not Disturb, which only allows priority and alarm notifications--had one this morning, in fact.

I am getting plenty of errors, which is often par for the course with Insider builds, but fortunately no critical errors at all, glad to say...;)

Working fine here too, all notifications from Phone Link coming through with no event log errors.
Must have been a server-side glitch

Installed KB5089573 Windows 11 Release Preview-build voor 24H2/25H2 and after installation/reboot the webview2 apps like Microsoft Solitaire Collection and the WhatsApp app dit not work anymore. When starting these apps they were stuck on their opening screen (white screen). I tried removing Webview2 and reinstalling the runtime. To no avail. I rolled back the KB089573 and everything was working fine again. Is there something else I can try?

  • Fixed an issue resulting in the audio volume being unexpectedly muted on certain devices
  • Fixed a Windows Push Notification service (WPN) hang, which could lead to some apps not launching and notifications not working.
Updated: 5/19/2026 [Windows Hello] This update improves sign-in behavior on the lock and login screens. If you have Windows Hello face or fingerprint set up but need to fallback to use a PIN instead, face or fingerprint is now the default sign-in method every time you sign in — even if you last used a different method. If you choose to use a Windows Hello PIN three times in a row, we will stay with PIN until you switch to another sign-in method.

I didn’t realise that this issue was caused by Microsoft. In games like ETS2 or Rocket League, the sound would cut out at random intervals for a few minutes, then return to normal.The AMD Audio CoProcessor v6.0.3.122 driver has partially fixed the issues.
I still feel that the sound volume isn’t as ideal above 50% as it is below 50%.

The WPN errors were fixed before this update today, now there back.
Rolling back to earlier backup and blocking the udpate

EDIT: The errors came up during the update but after another restart all seems ok again. Phone link notifications are coming through and no errors. So far.

So I had seen issues of taskbar notifications not updating. Now seems fixed. Start menu was already fixed had to rebuild old was stuck after Windhawk saga.
Now the other issue is Appreadiness. It hangs for 15 seconds after login same issue as last update. I shut it off for a few days and turned it back on, it seemed to have corrected itself. I will try again. I must say, there are things that are a lot snappier with these 2 updates. Clearing event viewer almost twice the speed. :cool:
