Announcements and messages

This section provides key notifications related to this release, including announcements, change logs, and end-of-support notices.

Windows Secure Boot certificate expiration
Important
: Secure Boot certificates used by most Windows devices are set to expire starting in June 2026. Microsoft has been updating these certificates on consumer and non-managed business devices over the past several months. Devices that haven’t received the newer certificates will continue to start and operate normally, and standard Windows updates will continue to install. Updated certificates will continue to be delivered through Windows Update in the coming months. For more information, see Windows Secure Boot certificate expiration and CA updates.

Redesigned Start menu availability for commercial and managed devices

The redesigned Start menu is available on commercial and managed Windows devices. For an overview of the feature, see Configure the Windows Start menu. IT administrators can use new customization policies: HideCategoryView and ConfigureStartPins. Learn more at Start Policy CSP and Start policy settings.

End of updates

Windows 11, version 24H2 Home and Pro editions will reach end of updates on October 13, 2026. Devices running these editions will no longer receive fixes for known issues, time zone updates, technical support, or monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats. Enterprise and Education editions remain supported until October 12, 2027.

To stay protected and up to date, we recommend you upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11.

Change log

Change date
Change description
June 23, 2026Update added (gradual rollout): [File Explorer] This update improves File Explorer responsiveness when mounting disk images.

Highlights

This update is available through two release phases: gradual rollout and normal rollout. A gradual rollout delivers an update in phases, so features reach devices over time instead of all at once, meaning availability varies by device. A normal rollout is the broad release to all eligible devices at the same time, usually when it reaches general availability (GA).

Gradual rollout

The following summary outlines features from AI-powered Windows 11 PC experiences, along with improvements and fixes. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change.

Windows 11 PC experiences

This section highlights some new features and enhancements for Windows 11 PCs, including AI-powered capabilities, continuous innovation, and performance improvements.
  • [Point-in-time restore for Windows] New! This flexible recovery feature helps you quickly roll back your PC, including apps, settings, and personal files, to a recent automatic restore point. It helps reduce downtime and simplifies troubleshooting when issues occur. To learn more, see Point-in-time restore for Windows.

  • [Windows Update] New! A calendar experience in Windows Update Settings (Settings > Windows Update) lets you pause updates by choosing an end date, for up to 35 days. You can extend the pause by selecting a different end date and re‑pause updates as needed. For more information, see Pause updates in Windows.

  • [Widgets] New! A quieter, more focused Widgets experience helps reduce interruptions and improves default settings and notification controls:
    • Reduce distractions: Widgets no longer open on hover. Notifications and taskbar badges are minimized by default.

    • Simpler: Open to the Widgets dashboard by default on first use.

    • Customize: Configure Widgets how you want by selecting Settings in the navigation bar, then changing any of the default settings.
    • Stay informed: Dashboard icons show the number of alerts, and badges clear automatically when you leave a dashboard.
    • Adjusted defaults: Some default settings are preserved based on usage, while others adjust to reduce interruptions.
    • Performance improvements: This update provides improved reliability, responsiveness, and visual quality across the Widget experience.
  • [Accessibility] New! This update makes your screen easier to see and customizes your zoom experience:
    • Screen tint: Apply a full-screen color overlay to help reduce eye strain and improve readability. Choose from preset tint options, adjust the intensity, or turn it on automatically. Find this feature in Settings > Accessibility.

    • Magnifier: Enter a zoom percentage directly and change it in increments in the Magnifier window for more precise, flexible control.

    • Magnifier settings menu: You can now also modify zoom increments directly from the magnifier bar instead of navigating to Windows Settings each time.

  • [File Explorer]
    • New! When you hover over a file in File Explorer Home, commands such as Open file location and Ask Copilot appear as quick actions. This experience is now supported for work and school accounts (Entra ID).1
    • Improves the speed and performance of File Explorer launch.2
    • Fixes an issue where the OneDrive shortcut in File Explorer stops working when File Explorer is run with administrative mode.
    • This update improves File Explorer responsiveness when mounting disk images.
    • The address bar now supports paths containing double backslashes and quotation marks (for example, C:\\Users\\user or "C:\Users\user"), improving compatibility with a wider range of inputs.
    • The address bar suggestion dropdown is more reliable and now consistently closes after an item is selected.
    • This update addresses an issue on File Explorer Home where OneDrive files could appear duplicated in the Favorites section.
    • This update includes several refinements to the Rename experience:
      • Addresses an issue where text was repeatedly selected when renaming items in folder views.
      • Addresses an issue where case-only name changes were not immediately reflected in folder views for items stored locally or in the cloud.
  • [Bluetooth] This update improves reliability and performance when connecting to and using Bluetooth devices:
    • New! Windows now keeps the microphone mute state in sync between the audio mixer and the Hands-Free Profile (HFP) for a more consistent experience with Bluetooth headphones with mute buttons or indicators.

    • Accessory compatibility workarounds: Improves compatibility with specific Bluetooth audio devices, helping AirPods appear faster in pairing mode and improving microphone reliability on Beats Studio Pro headphones.
    • Bluetooth audio stability:
      • Improves overall Windows stability with certain PC manufacturer drivers (error code 0x9F).
      • Improves Bluetooth reliability for voice calls when using Classic Audio devices with the Hands-Free Profile (HFP).
      • Reduces time for LE Audio accessories to start playing audio while using the microphone.
    • Device management: Windows will no longer show a “Remove failed” message when attempting to remove Bluetooth devices if the Bluetooth radio is unavailable or has changed since pairing.
    • Settings experience: Improves stability when using the Bluetooth & devices settings page for a smoother, more consistent experience.
    • Connection reliability and responsiveness:
      • Reduces the time it takes for classic Bluetooth audio devices to reconnect after Windows resumes from hibernation.
      • Improves reliability when LE Audio accessories disconnect, such as when another device (for example, a phone) connects.
      • Improves reliability of LE Audio streaming after a connection is lost and restored.
  • [Bluetooth and Phone Link] This update improves audio routing for calls made through a connected phone:
    • When an outgoing call is dialed from a paired phone, audio remains on the phone while ringing and transfers to the PC only when the call is answered from the PC.
    • When Do Not Disturb is enabled on Windows, incoming call audio from a paired phone no longer rings on the PC.
  • [Voice access and voice typing] New! You can now use voice access and voice typing in French, German, and Spanish. As you speak, your PC improves your text in real time. It corrects grammar, punctuation, and recognition errors, and helps improve clarity—even in the presence of background noise. This makes dictation smoother and reduces the need for manual edits.3
  • Audio This update improves the reliability of the inbox HD Audio driver.
  • [Taskbar] This update improves the reliability of opening the Start menu when selecting the left edge of the taskbar when the icons in the taskbar are left-aligned.
  • [Networking]
    • This update includes networking improvements for virtualized environments. Confidential Virtual Machines (CVMs) now use SR-IOV hardware acceleration by default for improved network throughput, and a configuration issue in nested Hyper-V virtualization network setup has been corrected to ensure reliable VM network provisioning.
    • This update improves the reliability of the Windows networking stack. It reduces bug checks (blue screen errors) related to Wi-Fi power and improves cellular (WWAN) connectivity, including support for IPv6 VPNs. Compatibility with third-party VPN software and SR-IOV configurations on server hardware is also improved. Network adapter settings and bindings are now preserved across OS upgrades.
  • [Printing] New! New printer installations use Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) by default when supported, simplifying setup and improving reliability. For details about third-party driver deprecation, see End of Servicing Plan for Third-Party Printer Drivers on Windows. To control this behavior, use the toggle in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Default install printers using Windows Ready Print. For more information, see Introducing Windows Ready Print and modernized driver selection. For more information, see Introducing Windows Ready Print and Modernized Driver Selection.

  • [Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)] The update improves usage of WSL in mirrored networking mode with VPNs.
  • [Display and graphics]
    • Improves the reliability of rendering content while scrolling for certain apps spanning across multiple monitors.
    • Improves the reliability and persistence of applying color profiles.
  • [Location services] This update changes how some location settings are displayed in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location to help with clarity. When location services are turned off, settings like Default location and Allow location override don't immediately apply, since location information is not given to apps or services. These settings will now be greyed out when location services are off to reduce confusion over when they take effect.
  • [Search] This update improves the reliability of setting Search related group policies.
  • [Input]
    • New! You can now customize the size of the right-click zone in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad. Choose from default, small, medium, or large to control how much of the bottom-right corner responds to a single-finger right-click. This setting is only available on touchpads with a pressable surface. If your device manufacturer provides customization through their own app, a Custom option will appear to reflect those settings.

    • This update improves recognition of English characters when using Japanese handwriting.
  • [General performance] Improves the time to shut down Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) when you turn off your PC.
  • [General Reliability] This update improves the reliability of explorer.exe. It addresses issues on the login and lock screens related to third-party credential providers, reduces the probability of taskbar icons appearing as blank gray placeholders, and improves navigation to Home in File Explorer during OneDrive sync. It also improves explorer.exe reliability when switching between desktops, enhances app launch with shell extensions, and using acrylic blur effects in the Start menu, Settings, and the lock screen.
  • [Apps] Resolves an issue where some installers and applications could show unexpected elevation (UAC) prompts after installing KB5089549.
  • [Remote Desktop] This update refreshes the dialog design when you enable Remote Desktop in Settings > System > Remote Desktop.
  • [Graphics Kernel] Improves memory-management policy that allows PCs with more than 32GB of installed memory to run larger local AI models.

Normal rollout

This non-security update includes quality improvements. The following summary outlines key issues addressed by the KB update after you install it. Also, included are available new features. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change.
  • [Secure Boot] With this update, Windows quality updates include additional high confidence device targeting data, increasing coverage of devices eligible to automatically receive new Secure Boot certificates. Devices receive the new certificates only after demonstrating sufficient successful update signals, maintaining a controlled and phased rollout.
  • [Authentication] This update improves Netlogon secure channel connections between domain controllers, enabling successful connections from member servers to domain controllers set up before 2025.
  • [Emoji Panel Update] The emoji panel (Windows key + period (.)) now uses GIPHY for GIF content following the deprecation of Google’s Tenor API. Starting June 30, 2026, install the latest Windows update to continue using GIFs in the Emoji panel. If you don’t update, you will see a "GIF service is not available" error in the panel. Installing the latest Windows update will restore access to GIFs.

  • [Networking] This update improves how your device connects to shared network resources. Connections used by apps and system features, such as the NetUseAdd function, now work more reliably, including unauthenticated (null session) connections.
  • [Recycle Bin (known issue)] Fixed: This update addresses an issue where the confirmation dialog might display an internal Recycle Bin file name instead of the original file name when permanently deleting a file. This issue might occur after installing the June 2026 security update (KB5094126).
  • [Taskbar] This update improves notification badge display across your apps. Notification counts and badge visuals now update correctly, helping you stay up to date with new activity.
If you installed earlier updates, your device downloads and installs only the new updates contained in this package.

How to get this update

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates.

Deployment

If you deploy dynamic updates such as this update to an existing Windows image, ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media. Failure to include the file might prevent devices from successfully starting from the installation media and can result in error code 0xc0430001.

Note: The boot.stl file is used during Secure Boot validation and must match the Windows version and architecture of the image you are updating.

To ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media, do one of the following:
  • Use the Update WinPE script to update an existing Windows image. (Recommended)
  • Manually copy the boot.stl file from the device Windows\Boot\EFI folder to the corresponding folder on your installation media before deploying the update.

Screen Tint, new in this build under Settings Accessablility.... It is embeded in multiple Reg addresses so, deactivating there could possibly wreck other color, tint settings or worse beyond desired outcome. Report back to MS, not happy with this thingy.

Well looking at the error; it seems there is a driver inside C:\Windows\System32\drivers that the Memory integrity does not like and refuses to load. Is Memory Integrity turned on or off? Turn it on. If it refuses than look what it's refusing. It will show you a list of drivers that it has issues with. You have then deinstall these drivers because MS don't trust them. It can be: I had a case once; The signature of the driver was expired. No new software available that had a valid signature. Had a similar issue with SAFE_OS but during the MIGRATE_DATA proces. (Error: 0x8007042B -0x2000D) Could not fix that one. The advice was; disconnect all USB-drives, to stop all non-MS services. Did not resolve my issue so I proceeded with a clean install. The problem was gone. Could be a driver issue also. Got rid of it with that clean install. It is wise before each update (seen this issue) to check if there are unknown device inside the device manager. Had this recently. Some unknown devices; it appears that it was missing some Intel drivers. Had a hard time to find the right ones.
- An Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology Driver (RAID driver. My board is capable using RAID, but I don't use it.
- An Intel Management Engine Interface driver from the motherboard manufacture.

It seems that some driver is hampering this update proces. Can not solve it and roles back again to the previous build.
I am also not sure why you use UUP builds that is not on the official update roadmap like; 8313 and 8728.
The official ones are 8328->8457->8524->8655->8737. Any other on-official builds may introduce issues. And when you have 8328 you don't have to go through all those steps like 8457->8524->8655->8737. You can from here (8328) update directly towards 8737.

I've done all of this. This isn't my first time with this error. It is the first time in a long while however. It's not a driver issue (at least any of my drivers I have installed). It's a WinRe (driver) issue. Which is why I tried all the versions leading up to 26200.8728 and they worked fine. In fact, I've researched this and it appears this issue was once in the dev/beta builds recently. I'm going to just assume someone let it slip though the cracks. I am currently on 26200.8737 but I had to use the MSU file to do it.

As for using UUP builds? Because without sounding like a jerk: I want to. I'm not a rookie. I've been in IT professionally for over 35 years. I can handle most errors the installer throws at me. I even solved the 0xc1900101 before with stetupdiag.exe. It reads the logs and tells you what drivers are being rejected. 0xc1900101 is a generic rollback code that could be a lot of things, hence the use of setupdiag.exe to find and correct them. Setupdiag.exe simply showed no errors whatsoever other than the generic rollback code. The last action it completed was the removal of system restore points and PITR points (which happens right before the reboot into WinRe). They were successful (read "true"). Nothing else.

This failure happens as soon as the PC boots into WinRe. The only error I did see twice was "boot drive not detected." I suspect the drivers for storage are just not there and I'm again going to go ahead and assume someone forgot to drop those into WinRe which uses a completely different (basic) set of drivers to start the WinRe environment.

Microsoft has dropped the ball many times in the past (hence the need for this forum to discuss them) and they will again in the future. I'm simply discussing the issue. Also as I'm not the author of the other thread I linked I know I'm not the only one that discovered this issue.

I have a sneaky suspicion this will correct itself soon as the builds filter down to the RP channel.

But I do thank you for your reply.

You're welcome to try this yourself. I'd be very shocked if it worked. It can't hurt anything as the failure will simply cause windows to roll back to your current version.

P.S. A quick google search within the last month (using the tools tab to filter on the last month) shows the 0xc1900101 has been happening very recently. I'm not alone. I'm also not stuck as I've indicated the workaround is to just use the MSU until Microsoft gets it sorted.

I included one search result below. There are many more.

Do you check for Reclaimable Packages when you run DISM and if so reclaim them ?
If I reclaim the packages that is when I see the issues.

As everyone already knows; It wil find 2 reclaimable packages. But after a CleanupComponentStore action there will be still 2 packages to be reclaimed. They are some packages left belonging by the initial 1742 release and remains to be there until a real next release. Inside the ComponentStore are all belong to 26100. Windows is saying 25200 but that is not the case. Maybe they will disappear with 26300 beloning to 26H2 but I have hard hopes for it. 26100 belongs still to 24H2 and they just fixed Winver that it always reports 26200 and called it 25H2. What you see inside the ComponentStore says otherwise. All those update are called for builds 26100.8737 and 26200.8737 for a good reason; they are the same. That 1742 base build has been there from the beginning with 24H2 and 25H2. It it some base build that needs to be there. In all builds since 26100.1742, 1742 packages are superseded remains. Even with 26200.8737 these two versions are still present till today. Deleting those 2 1742 packages will hamper future updates and causing issues; so they must be left alone;

I ran the install again just now to obtain the latest setupdiag.exe data. As you can see the only error message is the finalized last operation which was the removal of the PITR points. But then later in the log it says that operation completed successfully (true). All of this occurs before the reboot into WinRe. It's failing at literally the beginning. When it loads the mouse and keyboard. Both of which I removed when troubleshooting this before. It made no difference.

Mostly, it is because in the five years since you installed Windows 11, you have not installed any software that alters the OS. Also, you have not hacked around in the registry very much... if any at all.

The Samsung NVMe PM9C1a 1024GB SSD does not use a Phison NAND controller. Instead, it uses Samsung's in-house developed Piccolo (S4LY022) 6-Core 4 Channel Controller. The PM9C1a utilizes a controller built using Samsung's 5-nanometer process and seventh-generation V-NAND technology. 🤔

From Dell: 512GB NVME Solid State Drive accelerated by 32GB Intel Optane Memory are the fastest as compared to NAND SSDs. Intel Optane H10 with SSD offers speedy storage and accelerates opening your programs.
If someone will keep a note about the restore experience since this update, it would be very interesting.
On my PC, for the past 3 days the Point-in-time restore automatically created 5 restore points, much more than expected from the default frequency settings (24 hours, it cannot be changed in UI). In practice, the time between the points is much less and different in each case, from 8 to 20 hours. At the same time, classic System restore hasn't created even a single point since 24 June, so it has completely separate schedule.
Apparently, the new restore service works not as intended or at least as announced.

Perhaps it creates new points if you make changes such as install drivers/software or update something. System restore would often do that.
24 hours is probably the default if no changes are made

Mostly, it is because in the five years since you installed Windows 11, you have not installed any software that alters the OS. Also, you have not hacked around in the registry very much... if any at all.
I've also never had a computer that wasn't fully Windows 11 compliant. Could that also be a factor?

The Samsung NVMe PM9C1a 1024GB SSD does not use a Phison NAND controller. Instead, it uses Samsung's in-house developed Piccolo (S4LY022) 6-Core 4 Channel Controller. The PM9C1a utilizes a controller built using Samsung's 5-nanometer process and seventh-generation V-NAND technology. 🤔

It's interesting. Some people have update problems. Some don't. I've not had a single update problem in the five years I've had Windows 11. Why?
Because you don't F around with it.👍
