KB5101650 (Chrome / Firefox freezes when scrolling videos reddit)

When I am on Reddit, and I am scrolling through posts - there are autoplay videos. These videos prior to KB5101650 would load just fine, but after KB5101650 if I scroll just a tad too quickly the entire browser freezes and eventually unfreezes. This applies to every browser including Chrome an FireFox.

I uninstalled the update KB5101650 to test, and the issue comes back after reinstalling KB5101650.

I have also updated the nvidia drivers and repeated this with no fix.

NVIDIA 610.62 (4060 MSI)

I am not entirely sure why KB5101650 would affect reddit's videos loading etc.

I disabled autoplay on reddit, but it still does not fix this random "freeze" that occurs and still so far, only on reddit.

I am inclined to believe it's a reddit issue, but I haven't seen any posts from anyone regarding this strangeness.

That definitely sounds like KB5101650 has introduced some sort of graphics or video decoding issue.

The fact it happens in Chrome and Firefox, stops when you uninstall the update, then comes back after reinstalling it is a pretty solid indication the update is the cause rather than Reddit or the browser itself.

I would try turning off hardware acceleration in one browser first and see if that stops the freezing. In Chrome, go to Settings, System, then turn off “Use graphics acceleration when available” and restart the browser.

You could also try disabling hardware accelerated GPU scheduling in Windows under Settings, System, Display, Graphics, Default graphics settings, then reboot.

If either of those fixes it, I would report it through Feedback Hub and include the update number, your RTX 4060 and NVIDIA driver version. It may be a new bug that Microsoft has not acknowledged yet.

I already tried disabling hardware acceleration, and even a full reinstall of Windows 11 25H2 after wiping the drive. As soon as KB5101650 touches the OS, it screws up the browsers so that eventually they lag when scrolling. At first I thought it was just reddit, but it turns out it affected every website.

I did further testing, and it actually affected the entire browser - but it just took longer for it to accumulate whatever bugs it was doing.
