I guess I have it in my head that the product should melt, (so to speak), the plastic around the serrated edges of the brass screw seat.
I was even thinking of taking a soldering iron and pushing the plastic over the outer ring of the screw seat!
(I haven't done work like this for ages!!! Jeepers, my eye sight is getting terrible!!!) :dizzy:

Did I not read, on occasion, that older HP laptops had some of the poorest hinge designs on the planet?
This lid is very heavy and, the hinges feel very strenuous!

Yes it is. JB Weld started out about 40 miles from me in 1969. It's home office is still there. It was sold only in Texas to automotive shops for a while but it's world-wide now. A guy that owned a machine shop developed it. Now they have polymers for glass, plastic , wood and the original. My husband actually fixed a crack in the windshield of our farm truck with it. According to my husband, there are stronger epoxies out there now but not then, and now none of them give you the work time JB does.

I have a personal experience with the guy who developed it. Years ago, when I was about 17 or 18 or so, one night my car broke down just outside Sulphur Springs, Texas. We didn't have cell phones back in those days. A man in a work truck stopped to help. He said my radiator was busted. He towed my car to his house, let me meet his wife, and brought me all the way home. It was Sam Bonham who would get his patent for JB Weld a few years later. Just a good old country boy from Texas.

I currently have no battery in one of my Dell laptops. What I have found as a result, when connecting directly to the mains power, the laptop gets so hot it’s concerning. I am not talking warm, really hot.
How this is related to not having a battery, I don’t know. But is started when I removed the battery.

I tore the battery cable off the motherboard accidently. I bought everything I need to repair it. But it turns out I also tore off the contacts, so I would have to remove the board to attempt to fix it, or pay someone. It’s a 2017 laptop. I’d guess the repair cost would be more than it’s worth.

I think it’s destined for the bin.

Maybe I'll order a new battery, cuz, upon further inspection, I can see that the thickness of the battery frame acts as a bridge between the case and the screw seats, at two points. Either that or I slip a few tiny washers in there! :cool:

I doubt it will get to that point. All CPUs have temperature threshold that triggers shutdown when they get too hot.

I don’t doubt you. But I would have to conclude that my temp threshold is broken.

The heat from this would warp those fan coolers.

Getting a genuine battery (recommended) would be under $100? That’s cheaper than a new laptop, new or second hand.
