latest builds -- language rubbish again

Hi folks
I know some languages aren't that important but if they offer at least the basic offerings in "Non standard" or relatively minor languages then don't mix them up -- I don't need 33% of a menu in 3 different languages with bits of it in one and then another -- even in the same line !!! -- just offer it in the most complete thing. If Update menu is only available in Eng - then no problem --I don't (and I'm sure most others) don't want the all the drop down items appearing in different languages etc etc.

So in order to get some consistency -- I've had to go back to Windows build 22000.xxxx (21H1) and then update from there to all the following builds including the latest Canary build -- and now at least language is consistent and works.

C'mon Ms -- My "Staffie" dogs probably could organise things better.

In the insider builds happens. Some texts aren't translated from English

I am not sure if this is related, but I have seed too some mixed text when adding a language pack (eg Greek) to the English US version. But if you run Windows Update and install all updates and do a couple of restarts, the issue is resolved, all text appears in the chosen display language. It doesn't happen every time, but I have seen this bug 2-3 times when I clean-install Windows English US and I want to turn it to Greek or vice versa. The mixed text might also appear after a major upgrade (such as from 21H2 to 22H2) that requires to reinstall the language pack on the new version. After installing all updates and restarting it usually resolves.

This isn't a bug. MS specifically warns you Language Packs must be installed before applying CU's, because the order does matter. Otherwise, you'll have to re-install the same CU again.

Yes it is a bug. I have all updates installed on Windows 11 21H2 English US (for example) and I have installed the Greek language pack to switch the display language to Greek. I then download the 22H2 English US ISO in order to do an in-place upgrade. After the upgrade the display language returns to English US and I have to install the new Greek language pack. So far so good. I install the new Greek language pack to switch to Greek again, but some text remains in English US. After using Windows Update to install all updates and some restarts later everything is Greek only. So it is a bug, but thankfully it can be resolved.

My point is you must install all available updates and your issue might fix.

Add updates to a Windows image

When you're adding an update to an image, consider the following:

• Add languages and Features on Demand before adding a cumulative update (LCU). If you add a language or Feature on Demand after a cumulative update, you'll need to reinstall the update.
• Add apps after languages and Features on Demand. Universal Windows apps and desktop applications need to be reinstalled if you add a language after installing an app.

For the purposes of "updates", any in-place upgrade or feature pack is the same thing as LCU. This has always been the rule that MS provides to everyone managing images. Just because you're updating a live system doesn't change the rule.

It's not a bug, but a warning that isn't well known outside the tech community that builds custom Windows images.

You might be right, but this doesn't apply when upgrading from one version to the next. You cannot install the language pack before upgrading to the next version.
