Just updated LibreWolf to 157.0-1 and it now has that horrible Nova appearance as well.

Fortunately, like Firefox, it can be changed back with browser.nova.enabled > false in about:config.

I'm expecting a (not too distant) future update to change it back to Nova again with the option to disable it removed.

I am glad I could set it back for now. I REALLY hate that new Nova look. I remember when you could set a software's UI for some things to be the way you like it, not have some crappy GUI that looks like it was designed by a Miami Vice fan's attempt at UI design while strung out on acid forced on you.

Continued from post #1905

Not seeing this issue with 157 with Nova Enabled.

I did set this one back to false as 157 changed it to true.

The best recent improvement in Firefox is that the white flash when switching pages - which used to occur when changing the default background color - is finally gone, and you can now easily use any image from your drive as the background.

I am glad I could set it back for now. I REALLY hate that new Nova look. I remember when you could set a software's UI for some things to be the way you like it, not have some crappy GUI that looks like it was designed by a Miami Vice fan's attempt at UI design while strung out on acid forced on you.
I have been spending about a month testing and setting up browsers in my VirtualBox testenvironment. Browsers that can about have the same customizing options as Firefox had once.

First I tested Vivaldi, a Chromium type of browser. Customizing is possible very well, be it somewhat reduced when compared to Firefox. At the end, after installing my Stylus styles which I use to configure the design of certain sites to my liking, it appeared to be very slow. Searched on the Internet how come and found that Vivaldi has realized the UI-customization by laying a shield around the original Chromium software, shield functioning with javascript, CSS and such and that is slowing down it very much. Read many complaints about that on the net. And because Chromium requires Manifest V3, which is much slower than what Firefox still uses.

After testing a lot of other browsers, I came to Waterfox.
Waterfox is a fork of Firefox, that uses the ESR version of Firefox as a basis. In Waterfox you can choose between UI Nova, Proton and Photon.
- Nova we all know now as being horrible, reason for many users to say goodbye to Firefox.
- Proton is the UI used until Firefox v156
- Photon is the old UI that Firefox used long ago and that I imitated using a userChrome.css file with many modifications.
In the setting Photon you can customize the UI of Waterfox completely. Many extra settings are provided. It is really very universally configurable! So I set it to Photon, made my choices for extra settings and see: it really looked like I was used to in the old Firefox days without userChrome, css mods.

Then I did some finetuning in a userChrome file, of which I could just copy strings from the existing Firefox version, but just to disable the many menu and context-menu items that are in Firfox and thus as well in Waterfox.

Then I installed Stylus and the styles and didn't experience those delays that I had with Vivaldi. It was about the same as in Firefox.
So today I have said farewell to Firefox (which I used about from the start of it) and am completely over to Waterfox.

I can recommend anyone who hates that Nova to give Waterfox a try!
