I did a clean install of Windows 11 Professional on this PC a few weeks back and twice since then Edge has "helpfully" removed my Start Page (DuckDuckGo) and replaced it with the ad ridden mess in the attached images, the lower one is what I see after closing the "Personalize your feed..." box.

Thank you MS (this is another reason why I use Firefox most of the time).

Edge also "helpfully" removed the 2 extensions I use (NoScript and uBlock Origin) both times. Yep, both completely gone. I had to reinstall them.

Let's see what happens after this latest "Stable" update. I'm also going to increase my O&O ShutUp10 settings to "Apply all settings" instead of "Apply only recommended settings" which I've been using since the Windows clean install in case that has something to do with it. I've always used "Apply all settings" in the past and haven't had an issue like this with Edge.

Edit: Funny thing is, this hasn't happened (twice) after an Edge update, it just happened "randomly" - I'd open Edge after not using it for a few days and there it was... Home page gone, extensions gone. The first time I installed the extensions I had to go into their settings to make them appear on the top right toolbar. After reinstalling them (twice) they reappear on the toolbar straight away so Edge must "know" they were there before?

Oh, I always have Edge updates disabled (Scheduled Tasks disabled and deleted and the 3 Edge Service disabled) between updates. Anyway, I've put my ShutUp10 settings up to Max (there's a lot of Edge settings that it doesn't touch with the "Recommended only" setting) so I'll see what happens now.

I've been using Edge ever since Windows 11 was introduced. You can configure Edge to look any way you like.

I don't want any news feed added and assorted pictures like you were showing. I want plain, simple, fast and functional Dark Mode. Compare what my default Edge looks like to the cacophony you were showing in your screen clips.

This really is bizarre.

After I open and close Edge 2 or 3 times it 'reverts' back to the ad ridden mess (which is actually the "On Startup - Open the new tab page" in Settings) because my "Custom Site" - DuckDuckGo disappears and my 2 extensions also disappear again.

The extensions really have gone - they're not just disabled. See attached image.

Thank goodness I only use Edge if I come across a rare website that doesn't work properly in Firefox.

I don't really have the time or patience to test this but I wonder if it has something to do with my default (and only) Search Engine being DuckDuckGo?

Some time back MS decided to remove all search engine options except Bing in Edge and someone posted a Registry file - I think it might have been here - to set the default (and only) search engine to DuckDuckGo and he claimed the setting would 'stick' even after Edge updates, which it has done so far.

Perhaps "someone" isn't too happy about that? :lmao:

I seem to have stumbled across some sort of solution to the problems I'd mentioned earlier but it still doesn't make a lot of sense to me, especially since it happened on 2 individual desktop PC's that I'd just rebuilt (I had everything except cases until recently) and reinstalled Windows 11 on both (one Home and the other Pro).

Anyway, when the Home page, new tab page and my 2 extensions 'disappeared' again in Edge I reinstated them then went to Reset Settings and used that. Then, I turned my 2 extensions back on (they were just turned off this time and not removed) and re-entered my Start and Home pages (DuckDuckGo) and changed my search engine from Bing back to DuckDuckGo (only had to do it on one PC, the other has the Registry file I mentioned earlier that makes DuckDuckGo the default (and only) search option.

The settings haven't changed now for over a day, I keep checking by opening Edge from time to time (I use Firefox 99% of the time) but this would have to be one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. Even for MS.

(Sorry Brink, I'm probably messing up your thread a bit here). :oops:
