MS Office 2021 Pro was out of stock over on ghacks site for a while, but it's baaaack. Quite a few of us on this forum bought it the last time. I've got to say I was skeptical due to the cheap price but it activated to my Microsoft account without any problems.

gHacks Deals but this time around they are sold out again. I expect it to be back because it was offered in Jan when I and others here purchased. I intended to grab another license, but waited too long because they go fast. I am on ghacks mailing list so as soon as it's in stock, I'll post it again. Hellava good deal. I was skeptical at first since the price was so low, but it activated to my MS account with no problem.

@glasskuter, thanks. I'll grab a copy.

Just curious, it says a "one-time purchase". Is that implying that you can only purchase one copy for that price?

No, that just means it's not Microsoft 365 where you pay monthly or yearly to keep the product, you pay once and you get all the updates for that version for free.

--Edit for clarification--
You can buy more than one copy at that price

--Edit (again)--
Apparently, this specific site does limit to one purchase according to @glasskuter Sorry about my above edit.

That's exactly what it means. I ordered my first copy in Jan and I've been waiting for it to come back. I tried to order another copy just now for my second PC and it would not let me. Said purchase limit exceeded when I tried to pay with paypal. I might could give them my checking account number and another email address, but I don't put my checking or debit card out there for anybody. Well, crap.

StackSocial I think limits the purchase to 10 copies, (and MacHeists, etc.) I can provide links if requested.

(Currently out of stock) :(

I'm good with the one copy to try out and evaluate. I am always skeptical of purchasing software this cheap wondering what bloatware is attached, etc. I use 365 as my daily driver. It's a steal for someone on a low budget that needs Office though.

Count this as your lucky day... there is no bloatware, it's just straight-up Office and that's it. :)

No bloatware as the program is downloaded directly from Microsoft. In all honesty, at that price, when I bought it I doubted MS would ever validate it but they did. I'm bummed I can't get another.

I don't use 365 nor do I use Onedrive so this observation may sound stupid, but Office 2021 doesn't save to onedrive by default like 365 does and the icons for all the Office programs look the same in both. Is there anything special one would need to do so there is no conflict between 365 and Ofc 2021? Or would just saving a file to onedrive in Ofc 2021 be all that's required?
Just asking because I have no experience with 365.

From what I'm told, the only difference as you said are you get the extra OneDrive space and it saves there by default as opposed to the local hard drive, so if you just change the save to OneDrive you have identical versions.

I have never used 365 either.

365 at least lets you install it on 5 other computers. So if you actually purchased the version updates every 3 years, assuming you were using it on 3, 4, or 5 computers, I think 365 would be better @$70/yr. And assuming you were paying full price for each individual license. If that makes sense.

yeah, these copies for $49.99 are single install, you have to contact Microsoft to switch them to another computer.

See also post #64 about activation following a hardware change.

you have to contact Microsoft to switch them to another computer.
The licence does not say that. Were you forced to do so? Was it within 90 days of your previous installation? What exactly did you have to do?

The licence search page is at www.microsoft.com/useterms/
and selecting Office Pro 2021 [English] will take you to
www.microsoft.com/en-us/UseTerms/Retail/Office/OfficeProfessional2021/UseTerms_Retail_Office_OfficeProfessional2021_English.htm

The licence says
MSOffice 2021 Pro Licence - section 3b said:
If you acquired the software from a retailer as stand-alone software, you may transfer the software to another device that belongs to you, but no more than once every 90 days (except due to hardware failure, in which case you may transfer sooner).
MS never required any compulsory contact with them for transfers of earlier Office versions [which had exactly the same transfer terms].

The licence does describe periodic internet use while Office is running to continue activation but without any specific action being required by the user
MSOffice 2021 Pro Licence - section 5 said:
If you activated the software by Internet, you may be required to periodically reconnect to the Internet while using the software to confirm the license associated with the licensed device; and if you do not reconnect, the software may operate with reduced functionality.

I appreciate that the proof will be in the pudding so I hope that, if anybody does transfer their Office 2021 Pro to a different computer after 90 days, they will come back here and describe the experience.

All the best,
Denis
