Solved Lock screen/Screensaver issue

Currently when my screen times out it goes into a slideshow lock screen I set up. Instead I now want it to go into a screen saver without a lock screen but when I enable the screen saver it's still going into the lock screen. How do I remove lock screen from screen time out and only have a screen saver?

In start, type Screen Saver, select change screen saver. Uncheck "On Resume, display logon screen"

Yep, yep.

This is from Win 10, but it's pretty much the same on Windows 11...

Right click the desktop and choose: Personalize > Lockscreen
Somewhere on the Lockscreen page you will see something about Screensaver.

Just click on that to get the old fashioned screensaver settings...

It works thanks. Now what happens when the display is set to turn off after 10 mins? Will I get the lock screen after a screen turn off?

I don't.
My screen is set to turn off after 5 mins. When I'm gonna be away from the computer, I turn on the screensaver and check mark the lock screen box. Otherwise...the screensaver just works normally.

While you're testing... set the screen to turn off after two minutes.
Then you can set the lockscreen thing, to turn on after 1 min.

When you get it all worked out... reset the screen back to 10 minutes.

After 10 mins the screen changed from screen saver to a black screen. With the lock screen it appears as though Windows has to reload programs and services by logging in again... I want to avoid that.

I guess I can set my screen timeout to something like 30 mins. I once heard that a screen saver is good to keep your monitors pixels stimulated...

Well... I glitched something when switching cables on the SSDs... had to restore from a backup.
OK... lemme set the screensaver stuff... it'll take 2 minutes to kick in.

OK...

Set screen to shut off at 2 mins. Set screensaver to kick ON at 1 min.

Screensaver comes on at 1 min, and screen shut off at 2 mins. Then I move mouse and I'm back to desktop.

IF I check the "On resume display the logon screen"...

The screensaver comes on at 1 minute, and the monitor shuts off at 2 mins... then I move the mouse, and it goes to the logon screen... when I type the password... it brings me right to the desktop, right where I left off. Browser open and everything.

Does the logon screen initiate a reloading of all Windows services? Similar to when you log out and log into another user account.

Mine didn't. After I typed the password... it went straight to the desktop all guns blaring.
The browser popped up with the tabs open, Bitdefender popped up instantly, etc.
Didn't seem to "load" anything, like it does when I restart the comp, for example.

Might want to try running sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt.

IF, that comes up clean, try running Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth ...and see if that comes up clean.
If it does... I would probably, if it was me... do an In-Place upgrade.

Then set up your personalizations again... then make a fresh backup.

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Windows 11 ISO (use the 3rd option), and save the ISO to your desktop.
Download Windows 11

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will look like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

I run Corsair CUE 4 software which runs in software and hardware lighting modes. Hardware mode lighting is supposed to kick in when the Corsair services are stopped (like when rebooting or manually closing the CUE software).

The Windows lock screen also appears to force CUE into hardware lighting mode. So the lock screen must kill the Corsair service... That's why I'm wondering if Windows reloads services when a lock screen has been opened...

How can I get my photos for the screen saver to be full screen? Apparently this was option in earlier Windows versions. Is it gone in Win 11?

Again, sorry. I know nothing about the Windows slide show.
I do know that on wallpaper... they have a selection of things like fill, fit, stretch, etc.
Maybe they have something similar for the slide show?

Well, screensaver or lock screen, I don't use them. Even my wallpaper is plain black screen.
Honestly, I don't try to get Windows 11 to run all the bling yet.
It's still a pretty new OS. If it doesn't bluescreen just doing basic things... I'm a happy camper.
