This was in the mail & calendar app, although I also saw them under the "new" outlook. Thats odd, do you have an O365 subscription?
Again here is what the free Outlook for Windows app looks like. Compare it to Outlook 2019 and Outlook 2021 below it. Now that I seem them side by side the difference is obvious. Outlook for Windows has launchers for Calendar, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Note these are for the free web versions of Microsoft 365. Outlook 2019 and Outlook 2021 do not have these launchers. In Outlook 2021 if I select to show the new version it looks just like Outlook for Windows. What is strange it launches the web versions of the Word, Excel and PowerPoint. That is kind of dumb when I have the full versions on my laptop. The web versions are not the same as the full versions.

Outlook for Windows (new).jpg

I don't have Microsoft 365 but do I have Office 2019 Pro Plus & Office 2021 Pro Plus. I started up Outlook 2021 and saw this.

Outlook 2021 (classic).jpg

I guess this is what is called Office 2021 (classic). If I select Try the new Outlook then it relaunches and looks just like the Office for Windows app I got from the Microsoft Store.

This is what Outlook 2019 (classic) looks like. No option to update to the new version but I can if I search in the Start menu.

I don't know what you mean by ads. Most email I get is from someone trying to sell something. Fortunately, my Microsoft account is not my main one. I use my Microsoft email account only sparingly so may explain why I get less spam on it than average. Most of my spam comes to my main email account which is not a Microsoft one.

    When I find it.
I use BlueMail. Works great for me. And it's free.
I did a short test now and it appears not to be really free.
Yes, basic functions are free, but trying several functions from the menus, I got the message you have to pay for it and that's a annual subscription, quite expensive for such a basic mail program.

Besides that:
- Translation (to Dutch) is very poor, many items were not translated.
- When you click menu item 'layout', a blank window is appearing and nothing functions anymore. I found no other way to get out than to use task manager to leave the program. And this happens every time you try to change the layout. The program has not been completed (yet), still seems to be in developement phasis.
That was the point I stopped testing, because the layout was not to my satisfaction and I would have liked to change it...

Ah, I was seeing it in the Mail & Calendar app, and this was under Windows 10. I'll reinstall it under Win 11 and see if its any different, however the only version of paid outlook that I have is Outlook 2007. Let me also try the free outlook under Win 11.

Thunderbird works perfectly although if you have a load of different accounts on various email server with different user banes and passwords then manual setup is rather a problem. So many of these things rhese days go for an "automated" dumbed down approach which may serve the majority of users but it's a real dog when things fail.

Never tried Bluemail but might give it a go.

Well I did and it's a NO NO.

On Linux it's a bit of a disaster since the wretched setup even on Manual says choose provider -- My understanding is that Manual means Manual -- if I'm on Linux then I might not be using an(and probably not) any of these things !!!!!

So It's Thunderbird for me -- at least I CAN set it up manually even if it's a bit of a pain. And this task is "uncancelable" i.e if you exit and restart the program you get the wretched screen shown below without even getting the option to re-run the setup.

AMATEUR SOFTWARE !!!!! Don't developers these days ever TEST stuff. You sh after a minute or so ould always be allowed to exit and restart the whole setup again from scratch without having to uninstall and re-install the app. At least it should prompt with "Provider not found / unreachable" == then offer options to really set up manually, restart or exit.
