Is there an up to date guide that shows how to use Macrium Reflect to convert a VM to a physical disk?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you
Rob

Hi there

@OldNavy

This is how I usually do it. (I'm assuming the Guest is a Windows system).

1) in the VM add a 2nd disk
2) boot the guest
3) in command mode on guest start diskpart and convert new disk to gpt, create a 100Mib EFI partition and format fat32.
4) clone the guest disk to the 2nd disk with Macrium -- I'm sure you have Macrium installed on the VM.
5) ensure you have the Macrium "Stand alone" recovery" as iso image.
6)set boot (VM) from iso macrium image with original virtual disk removed.
7) use macrium to "fix boot problems" -- you can actually do it via bcdboot but Macrium usually works easier,
8) exit the VM and boot the new disk.

You'll get basic video etc so you'll need to update Windows drivers etc - but Windows is fairly sophisticated at being copied to different hardware.
You might have to re-activate Windows as well - depending on hardware etc.

I've found actually the easiest way to do this is to clone the whole windows system plus the VM to an external device as a Windowstogo system and boot that.

then follow instructions as above -- and clone to internal hdd -- then after booting the final cloned system you'll probably get a message "Keep USB plugged in" as it still thinks it's a Windows to go system. Simply change the regkey "PortableOperatingSystem" from '1' to '0' and reboot -- job done.

cheers
