Latest updated Windows 11.
Although things seemed to have self-corrected after re-starting, I still would appreciate knowing what caused the following:
There was an app icon (looked like a file explorer icon) on my taskbar that just wouldn't close. Every time I tried closing it, I'd get a "Progress" drop down that asked if I wanted to cancel (Yes/No) all transfers. I would select yes, but the icon didn't budge off the taskbar...same if I selected No, and it was looping between the Progress drop down and and my selecting to close the app. I think the transfers it was referring to were the movement of some photo files that I had done earlier??? Anyway, in Task Mgr I ended a task that had to do with file explorer (don't remember its exact name,) the monitor screen turned all black and the only response that I would get was from Alt+Ctrl+Del. I did go to the Task Mgr and stuff was still running, although something related to "Lock" was suspended. I manually shut the computer down and restarted it. I got my greeting and put in my PIN, and then the all black screen again. I then did Alt+Ctrl+Del, but this time I manually chose to restart via the shutdown/restart/sleep icon in the lower right hand corner, and things are now working as they usually do. That's the story...
