Looking for feedback on password managers

This post is an offshoot of an early post in which I noted that I had just switched from using a Microsoft account to using a local account on Windows. With a local account I can no longer use Edge to sync passwords between all my machines, so I had noted that I'll need a good password manager.

At the moment, I am giving Proton Pass a trial run.

I'm simply wondering if anyone knows of any reasons to prefer something else over Proton Pass. In the hour or so that I've been using it, it seems to work pretty well.

Of course, if anyone has anything really compelling to suggest use of a different password manager, I'm all ears :-)

    The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

We use 1Password. We like the UI. We like the way the family version does password sharing.

I've been using Bitwarden since the LastPass kerfuffle, and I'm pretty happy with it. I do pay the yearly fee, just to support them, but you do get extra features for a few bucks.

I have a high-falutin Proton license, and I'm thinking about just moving over to that. They do take privacy pretty seriously (not that Bitwarden does not, just saying Proton does).

There are lot of good options.
1Pass, Bitwarden, Dashlane, and RoboForm to name a few.

My personal recommendations would be 1Pass or Bitwarden.

I would also recommend avoiding LastPass. They have had a number of significant breaches in the last few years which makes one question their company security program a bit.

You really can't go wrong with any of the top tier password managers. The bottom line is what UI you are comfortable with and what features you want/need.

I have RoboForm. I like except I have to be careful. A few times it tried to be too helpful and automatically updated the password information for me. The problem was the updated information was wrong. I had to go into its editor and fix this. I have a lot of passwords stored in RoboForm. Some of the password stored in it are impossible to remember. For that reason I try to export the RoboForm data to a ".csv" file every month or two.

Has anyone with a different password manager had a similar problem?

I've never had the automatic change issue, but I could see it happening. I think the backing up of the password list is a good idea. I print mine off occasionally and store it with an attorney, in case I suddenly find myself not alive.

Good point. I guess I'm going to play around with a few of them just to see what tickles my fancy.

We've been using 'RoboForm Everywhere' for close to 10-yrs. The 'Everywhere' version automatically sends changes to your other smart devices. We have two PC's, two iPhones and one I-Pad. 5/5 Stars!

I've been using Roboform for many years and Roboform Everywhere since its inception. Not the prettiest, but it may well be the best.

I don't trust password managers and rely on air gap between my prehistoric password storage system and the PC!

Another long-time, and very happy user of Roboform Everywhere. It is a great program. I use Proton Pass as a backup password manager, but it is not as good as Roboform, IMHO.

Ive been using proton pass for 2 months ..i like it so far. Based in switzerland, protonpass is best in class over any other pass manager, imho

I have been using RoboForm for many years as well, on Windows 7/10/11, iPhone, and Linux/Firefox. Works great, never had a problem. Recommended!
