Lotsa Edge instances!

I noticed recently while in Task Manager that Edge had 32 sessions running. What the hell? I have 32gig of memory but this is nuts. I had only two tabs active at the time.
Why is this happening?

That's correct. It is by design. Microsoft Edge appears as multiple processes in the Task Manager because of its multi-process architecture, where each tab, extension, and utility runs in its own separate process for improved stability and security
