Hi folks
Macrium free and other editions of Macrium have a Winpe type of system in it -- if you use the command console. So by entering diskpart, attaching a vdisk e .g disk1.vhdx you can then restore an image to this vdisk - even if the image was copied from a non vhdx file originally.

Do the other alternative programs do this . AFAIK there doesn't seem to be any mention of this facility in the available literature.

I know there are other ways to do this -- but it's more manual -- Macrium makes it easy also via VIBOOT too if "reverse cloning" a VM to a physical machine -- "V2P" conversion.

Cheers

Pretty sure Aomei backupper can do the same. I would think Easeus Todo can do the same.

Veeam probably needs a paid version. Acronis would be able to for sure.

Anyway, you do not need to use Winpe to restore an image to a vhdx so long as not booting from it.

Just attach vhdx as a drive, restore image va Host Macrium Reflect.
