Hi folks
just got this in Macrium Free on latest Canary build. Doesnt (currently) seem to have any impact.

Screenshot_20230910_092657.png

I'm running this in a VM on a host where the kernel has just been updated to 6.5.2 so whether this is a VM issue, Host issue, Windows Canary issue or a Macrium problem -- no idea - but I suspect from here on in Macrium Free might become a little less reliable. It still works without issuing that message on a physical machine running he canary build.

As its a VM I have other ways of saving it but it does look as if one will need to take a license out for Macrium or go for other solutions on physical Windows machines even FFU !!! . One thing for sure - I'm not going to use Acronis -- had terrible experience withthat software in the past.

cheers

Why would you even use Reflect in a VM.

Just mount vhd as a host drive and backup drive from host OS.

Re. error - as @Bastet says if you are usin xml files that is probably cause.

Hi there
That's what I usually do but I like to just test backup software from time to time just to see if it's still working properly. There's probably an error in an xml file somewhere - doesn't seem too serious though.

Kind of relatable to this. I got a pop-up from Kaspersky after recently installing a windows preview (not insiders) stating that Kaspersky might become unreliable in some instances due to them not being up to speed with the latest changes in the preview I installed. Mighty nice of them to be upfront, I thought.
I suspect Macrium will just have to tweak a few things.

I have the Canary build 25947.1000 both on a physical machine and as a Hyper-V VM. I have just downloaded the Reflect Free v8.0 download agent ReflectDLHF.exe from Macrium and installed Reflect Free v8.0.7279 on both machines.

Both have just completed a full image with no such error message as you have seen. That suggests a VM or Host issue may be the more likely cause.

Can I get some help. I'm

a basic/elementary PC user (W11).

I've used MR FREE for years and it indeed has saved my

bacon a few times. I've had it installed on my PC for b/u and in my boot

menu for restore. I regularly do a complete image of my SSD.

When I have to restore from B/U I just choose the

load PE on my boot-up. It loads that and MR, I

choose RESTORE and 10-15 minutes later I'm

breathing a sigh of relief!

My problem: my boot option has disappeared.

It just isn't there. I recreated it via MR. It seemed

to build it, but no joy. I tried the build again via MR and now that build choice is

greyed out. I have 3 PCs: 2 W10s and this W11.

Same issue. Not sure when this started. I recently

updated Windows in all 3 (including to 22H2).

Suggestions? (I have MR FREE 8.0.7279)

There are two tasks the rescue media builder performs when adding thw Windows Boot Menu. The first is to build the rescue media files. If this has already been done and is up to date then there is no need to rebuild the media and the Build button will be greyed out.

The second task is to update the BCD boot entry to add the rescue media as a boot option. If this boot entry subsequently gets deleted then you'll end up in the situation you describe. Macrium however will not see that it has been deleted and will think the BCD entry still exists.

The boot files do still exist, it's just that there's no longer a boot entry pointing to them. It's simple to add the boot entry again. At the bottom of the rescue media builder select the option to remove the boot menu. The Build button becomes a Remove button, click on it.

1694402844298.png

Then select the option to add the boot menu. The Build button can now be clicked and it will just update the BCD. You'll then have your Macrium Reflect boot option back again.
