Macrium reflect 8 lic expired so I am on my own regarding reading contents of image file.

I just found out after a lot of work I am on my own also.
Please, I cannot read the contents of documents in a macrium image file so I can copy and paste to my OS docs. Can you please help.

If you had the 30 day trial of Macrium Reflect v8.1 then it reverts to a 'Restore only' version when the licence expires at the end of the trial.

Uninstall Reflect v8.1 Trial and install Reflect Free v8.0 instead, you'll then be able to use Reflect as normal as Reflect Free never expires. Links for the Reflect Free Download Agent at the bottom of post #1 here:

Maybe I'm missing something but the only thing I've lost is support. I still have macrium reflect 8 for life because I had bought iit a year ago.
Are you saying I lost some functionality?

That is Correct , I am in the same boat and I am not having any issues,

Are you able to read the contents of an imaged file? I can do all else.

I've not lost any functionality with Macrium.

Sorry, I misunderstood your question, I though you only had the trial version.

Yes, if you bought v8.1 Home a year ago then your direct support has indeed ended. But you can still register on the Macrium Reflect forum and ask for help there.


There are many here who use Reflect too, so could answer your questions. What exactly is your issue?

That's not the point what I'm trying to say is after I back up an image I try to open it to read some of the contents like in documents but I am unable to do so it is nothing wrong with the program I just don't understand how to do that do you

You should be able to mount a Macrium image as a drive that can be explored with File Explorer. Just double-click on your image file. Make sure you tick the box for 'Enable access to restricted folders'. You should then be able to open any of the documents in that image.

You have to assign an apt as default to read that type of content. I use Notepad++

So you are trying to explore and existing backup

I used to be able to do this easily but I was formatted as NTFS.
My current format is exfat Do you think that makes a difference?
I drill down just as you say and when I get to the Documents level they are empty.
I never used to use Notepad before. Is it new to Macrium?

Notepad is the text editor in Windows.

I thought you were trying to read what was placed in Documents by Macrium. I use Nopepad++ but Notepad from Windows woul work for that purposr.

You are not wrong it is just I am not in your league.
I used to just go to an image in Macrium and drill down to documents then copy and paste. I cannot get info from Macrium as the license expired but I can use Macrium for life.
One person from the Macrium forum said I am using the wrong path but I could not get what he was saying.
So, it isn't your lack of explanation it is my lack of understanding.
My goal is to use an image to retrieve a file I need . If I could do so I could copy it and paste it into my OS.
I can get folders not files.

That will work as well but I only use that for emergency type restores such as if your PC will not boot. Having it in your Start menu will speed up any normal restore and be a great deal faster and you still can use a USB Thumb Drive as backup. It is up to you.

Thank you-I guess I will just not drill for a file. However, I did see where a person clicked on restore and after getting a new drive letter went to file explorer and located it. From there he was able to open files.
