Solved Macrium: Tired of the 16 digit ImageID prefix?

When you make a backup and give the backup a name, Macrium attaches an ImageID to that name.
Here's how to deal with that...

Never bothered me, as I normally just pay attention to the dates - Only have a maximum of three an any one time.

But, cant do it right now, but there is an option on the backup to give it a name instead. I have done this with a couple on my wife's computer and there is no imageid(?)

I wouldn't have minded if they had tacked the ImageID to the "end" of the file name.
But I like to know at a glance, which backup is which...

Would also be nice to be able to add an optional text note to describe the backup -- e.g "Win 11 rel xxx before fix yyy tue feb xx" for example included with the backup instead of having to create one and add it to a folder where you save your images.

A little box at the start of the process could come up where you could optionally enter the text -- (for those that don't like this the prompt could be disabled).

They do have this under Advanced Options...

But I just like the simple backup name format like so... MMM DD - OS version - brief note if needed

My eyes like this format. It's fast, simple, and hard to misread. (I only make full backups)

I have tested the prefix patch, and it works fine.

However, I prefer to set up an XML file as follows:

{YY}-{MM}-{DD}-{HH}.{MIN}-{BACKUPTYPE}

With above, backup names are always in chronological order

I do not bother adding descriptions, as that is a slight PITA for xml files, as you have to edit the xml file, and worse it get remembered if you do not change it each time i.e. xml files are great if you want an automated file generation, but not so good if you want to add comments each time.

Hi,
I've always just made folders with names I could easily identify, for example
Which rig it was for/ before updates or after updates or just scheduled / and date

Then point reflect to that drive and folder to write the image into.
So what ever string reflect chose to make it didn't really matter.

That's what the Comments section is for. I use mine as a sort of 'change log'.

Hm. Sadly for me, I never noticed the image ID issue because I've not had to restore from a backup. Guess that shows how unobservant I am!

If you use the image ID patch, do you have to repatch if Macrium updates?

Also, what if you have Macrium set to automatically backup your system? What's the image file name then?

No, you don't have to repatch. I just checked. I'm already 2-3 versions past the version I was on when I used the prefix patch.
