Vodafone is almost completely down broadband, 45, 5G but 2G still seems to be working

I used another sim on my mobile phone with limited data to go online and immediately purchased a travel esim with unlimited data for 1 day (£3.79).

It took seconds to install the emailed esim using the QR code, and now my phone has unlimited data for 24 hours.

Although this esim is data only, you can use voip services like whatsapp ok - it uses existing account.

I have tethered pc to mobile phone creating a hotspot, and using it right now to write this note.

Esims are really great in this sort of situations - most people panic and do not know what to do.

However, to do the above, you may need a dual sim alternative but it does not need much data (mine only has 1 GB, unlimited calls, texts) for £2.90 per month with Spusu (plus 500 mins calling to EU). You could also connect to a wifi hotspot to do this e.g. hotel, bar etc.

edit: it looks like Vodafone is recovering so, maybe I wasted a few bob but it was an interesting test.

Full service resumed by 5pm (2 hrs) - pretty quick compared with other recent similar breakdowns of other mobile providers.
