MediaMonkey

I'm a long time user of MediaMonkey. I have also helped quite a bit with its development over the years.
It plays all forms of media, but for me, I value it for its amazing music management, and its tag editing and reading abilities, including lyrics and multiple album artwork. MediaMonkey also has a solid database that stores all your play history statistics and can handle huge music collections.

What makes it even more powerful are the numerous addons available for it in MediaMonkey 4.
MediaMonkey 5 has now been released, and while the number of available addons are fewer right now, it is still a very powerful player.

If you ever visit the MediaMonkey Forum, you'll notice that many members are serious music lovers with high quality lossless collections and accurate and complete tagging. I tag most of my music collection manually, but there addons for MediaMonkey 4 that can do it for you.

Auto DJ and auto track pruning are two features that I use a lot, plus I have a few favorite addons that I couldn't be without.

Anyhow, enough of the rant.
Are there any other MediaMonkey lovers on this forum?
What are thoughts about it? What addons do you use?

Just a heads-up for MediaMonkey fans.
MediaMonkey v5.0.3.2625 RC 2 has just been released. If no other issues are reported, this should be a final.

One thing it lacks is access to the Gracenote DB -- probably the biggest DB for Classical music CD's. I'd imagine though this is not of too much concern to most people on these Forums but if you like Classical music -- especially of older more obscure 16/17/18 cent European music then the Gracenote DB and API is your best bet for not having to do a load of manual tagging when ripping audio CDs.

E.G from CD's I got these tagged automatically via ripping with Winamp and its internal Gracenote API tagging app. Winamp still works perfectly on W11 BTW.

I do like Media Monkey but it really misses this type of stuff.

I then sent the music after ripping and tagging to my Linux NAS server as below/: (I'm sure most people on these forums won't understand the 15th cent Flemish in most of the track titles !!!!!).

I think that would more likely be an addon feature similar to the Discogs Tagger addon.
You can always make a request for an addon at the MediaMonkey forum. They're usually quick to respond and very helpful.

Might be also a licensing issue too -=- remember Winamp Pro wasn't free -- wasn't expensive but that's probably how they got the license to use the gracenote API -- but no harm in trying !!

You might be right there, Jim.

Ventis Media have released another RC (v5.0.3.2626 RC 3) for MediaMonkey 5.
Maybe this one will be the final one before its release.

MediaMonkey v5.0.3.2627 final has been released.

Why on earth won't this app remember it's window size when I open it??

It's getting frustrating.

The issues with Gracenote is the fact that it was sold some time ago and the new owners decided to cash in, this meant that most former clients went elsewhere. Most of the issues were because the initial engine was written with an open GNU licence as it was written for FreeDB and the gracenote owners ignored this.

I understand that the data from the original still exists and is, or will be incorporated, into newer software, such as MusicBrain

@jimbo45 it may be worth while you keeping an eye on this - and Musicbrain is available generally without cost to the user
