Memory Speed For Ryzen 7 7700X Question

Hello All

Currently running T-force DDR5 32GB RGB Ram @5600Mhz with AMD Expo enabled.

If i was to upgrade in the future to GSkill DDR 5 32GB @6000mhz, would it be a good idea or bad idea? am i leaving performance on the table?


Motherboard is MSI B650 VC Wifi Rev 1.0

Believe this ram is at 1.25 volts according to CPU-Z, i did notice the bit faster ram shows 1.35 volt, so not sure if i have to look for a kit with 1.25 volt to be safe or not

You won't notice any difference. Save your money.

I "like" GSkill RAM the best, but it's not worth it to go from 5600 to 6000



But if you must buy new RAM... here are all the 32GB two stick sets of Gskill RAM that are compatible with your...

Put the money into an Nvidia vid card fund.

Well im very happy with my Radeon 7800XT Video card, but might save the money for other Household PC needs instead at this point, so far this current ram tested all fine with Memtest.

So not any emergency to replace or upgrade this ram after all i realize now

If you want some grey hair, you can probably overclock that RAM you have... to 6000Mhz. ^^
Won't be easy with all the junk in the BIOS these days, but it's doable.


Very short RAM overclocking guide...

Look up the exact same RAM you have but the 6000Mhz version.
Note the timing and the voltage.
Go in the BIOS, and attempt to set your 5600Mhz RAM to 6000Mhz, using the 6000Mhz frequency, timings and voltage.


Save your current BIOS profile (settings) before you attempt overclocking the RAM.
There should be 6 or 8 BIOS profile slots where you can save the current settings.


Then if you can't get the RAM stable at 6000Mhz, just load the 5600Mhz profile.

Here's my current RAM which is 3200Mhz...

Same RAM but 3600Mhz...


So if I was gonna try to OC my 3200Mhz RAM to 3600Mhz, I would...

Choose 3600Mhz for the DRAM frequency
And use the timings from the 3600Mhz specs, as a guide.
If I can't get the RAM stable on 16-16-16-36 timings... I may be able to get it stable on maybe 18-18-18-40 timings.

On both sets of RAM the XMP voltage is 1.35v... so I wouldn't have to change that.


But since I know I won't notice much difference between 3200Mhz and 3600Mhz.... there's no real need to mess around with it.



Really short answer...
When you raise the frequency of the RAM you have to loosen (raise) the timings, to keep the RAM... stable.
This is also why you won't see much difference.

Lower timings are faster, just like higher frequency is faster. So when all is said and done... 3200Mhz with tighter (lower), timings, runs just about as fast as 3600Mhz RAM with looser (higher), timings.




In fact, the IC chips on the RAM sticks for the 3200Mhz and the 3600Mhz RAM are probably the same IC chips.
When they make the IC chips, they make them on huge disks, about 2-3 foot in diameter. Then they slice it into IC chips.

Some will run faster than others. So when they test the IC chips, they sort them... they put the "faster chips" on the 3600Mhz sticks and the "slower chips" on the 3200Mhz sticks.

ALL the IC chips they sell will be good.
It's just that some can run at a higher frequency and stay stable, than others can.
