I have found this file called 'metadate'. It is beneath a file, which consist of letters and numbers, resembling a Registry key.

My question is, what is that there for and can I safely delete it?

When I search the net on 'Metadate', it seems to be a drug, simular to Ritalin.
Maybe you meant 'metadata'?
Metadata are all kinds of information that describe other information, see Wikipedia.
An example of metadata on a computer is the EXIF part of a JPG picture file, that describes under what circumstances that picture was made (make of the camera, shutter time, gps positioning and many, many more information).

So I think you should precisely describe what file you found, in what folder it is situated, what the file extension is, what it has to do with 'resembling a Registry key' and so on. The more information you give, the higher the chanche you get a useful answer!

If you’re playing in your File Explorer deleting files you could find yourself in a world of trouble. Use a cleaner like CCleaner or something. Anything else, unless it’s been detected as a virus, is probably there for a reason.

Sorry about the 'Meditate'... pardon me, I mean Metadata.
Here is the Folder which the file under discussion is found -

9EDD3488-CB29-4550-9ABE-27A9070B481F

- The contents of this Metadata is 0

Therefore, there is no way for me to trace it back to any particular program. Your advice therefore, will be much appreciated as to leaving this thing alone or deleting it.

I understand the joys that come with removing files from Explorer, or even better, the Registry. If grief is what one wishes, then this definitely would be the way to go.

Details are important. Is it in the “temp” folder, where is it?

Just delete the folder 9EDD3488-CB29-4550-9ABE-27A9070B481F would be my opinion. At a guess, something has created a temp folder on the root of C:
Not unheard of. Possibly after a software install.

But it’s just my opinion.
