Am using Roboform as a password manager for many years.
Recently I have set it up to use a passkey on, for instance, Paypal, Google Account.
Passkeys are stored in Roboform.
Once I access these sites, Roboform will show up : "Log in with Passkey?" - only need to click [OK]

I have not yet set up a passkey for my Microsoft Account.
Going through the tutorial - it seems ... that a PIN code is still required(??)
Meaning, no 1-click log in, like with Paypal.

Q: Is my understanding correct?

Thanks!

The password managers work with online accounts, no effect on Windows 11 user account password.

In this video, i will show you how to set Windows 10 and Windows 11 to automatically sign in to a selected domain, local, or Microsoft account at startup without the user needing to enter a username and password.

I don't use Roboform, but you may be involved with three or more situations:
  1. Logging into Windows
  2. Logging into online accounts with RoboForm
  3. Logging into online accounts with Windows Hello
You can't use passkeys in RoboForm or Windows to log into Windows.

You can log into online accounts, including Microsoft, using passkey stored in RoboForm. The PIN requirement when using a passkey is a FIDO2 specification, which RoboForm and other password managers, including Bitwarden, may not yet enforce. You should be able to log into your Microsoft account using RoboForm, similar to how you do with PayPal, without a PIN, as long as RoboForm is not enforcing the FIDO2 specification.

RoboForm may provide options, when prompting to authenticate with a passkey, to access passkeys stored in Windows Hello, and you can also store your Microsoft account's passkey within Windows Hello itself. Windows Hello does enforce the FIDO2 PIN requirement, so when you use it, you will be prompted to enter Windows Hello's PIN.

I do use Roboform and you are correct in your thinking. It has no effect on Windows passwords/passkeys. However, you can set a passkey for managing your Microsoft account online and Roboform will remember it. Roboform does not load until after Windows boots into your user account.. It affects site logins, not Windows logins.

Many thanks for the replies. Very sorry for the confusion: I am not talking about logging into Windows (PC), password or PIN are disabled there.
So, after boot I get the Windows desktop.

It is about the Microsoft Account after being logged out.

So, with Google and Paypal it looks like the below. It is a 1 click thing.

@glasskuter
Thanks. So... there is no such thing as an additional PIN (on top of Roboform)?
Until now that was my assumption.
Oh, BTW, glasskuter, since you are using Roboform allow me to ask two additional questions:
1. say you are logged out on desktop, you want to log in into your Microsoft account using your smartphone, will Roboform pop up automatically?
(though then still being locked by a master pw, max timeout is 10 minutes AFAIK)
2. any special settings within your MS account?

Thanks again.

Edit:
Just now I moticed a news article here (still need to read it)
