Huh - how is onamatopoeia related here?

Onamatopoeia is a SPECIFIC aural event:

noun: onomatopoeia
the formation of a word from a SOUND associated with what is named (e.g. cuckoo, sizzle).

I have not really tried any of these AI apps but as my typing skills. never true touch, deteriorate I am inclined to try them. And the God given intelligence is gradually going.
I was rather bothered yesterday, when commenting on getting to the stage where I forget words, that as long as I remembered the medical term for the condition, I wasn't too worried, only to find I couldn't remember it. It's nominative aphasia by the way.
As for Antspants' emasculator, I should have been able to figure it out but cheated and used Google. But it did remind me of the old joke involving two bricks and keeping your thumbs out of the way!

Seriously, you should try it. I've often got the solution to a Windows problem by asking ChatGPT.

Actually, when I got the update to 24H2, I saw co-pilot listed and said "let's break the norm and try a "dance with the devil" and turned it on. It actually was quite useful for the couple of times I used it. Now, I'm rather certain that I would have had a similar response using a normal web search, but that would have just utilized a different AI.

Out of curiosity I looked up the Dutch word for Onomatopoeia - it is klanknabootsing. Lovely! Using the "if only it were English" to translate it back it's a much more descriptive word than Onomatopoeia

I agree. My observation is that there is broad acceptance of the likely benefit of AI until it's suggested AI might displace what we do for a lving.

"That ship has already sailed" . Bit of inevitable politics here but in this case it's relevant to the issue. All over the richer parts of the world people are rallying against mass uncontrolled immigration which often stops companies from up-skilling their work forces and updating their equipment and procedures.

When its cheaper to hire minimum wage low tech staff it's no incentive for businesses to invest in high tech gear etc, especially if many of their low paid staff get social security handouts as well.

However with the election of Trump a lot of businesses are looking at this whole area again and it's obvious that many low skilled jobs can be replaced via automation. Robots can work 24/7, don't get paid, don't form unions and don't go on strike (Unless they are Cylons in the first part of the 2nd series of Battlestar Galactica).

Anybody on these Forums who has grand kids will see them grow up into a much different workplace than we;ve had since possibly the 1100's !!!! There will be many different types of jobs created - some we won't even have imagined today . Those who can adapt will be fine but there will be maybe millions who will be "all at sea" in this new economy. One will also need a huge social change too but like it or not A.I is coming and it's improving quite quickly too. The main limiting factor will be the huge amount of energy required to service this A.I -- never mind about Electric Cars, the energy required for sophisticated A.I is really enormous !!!

Sorry for the politics but in the case of A.I it really does bear relevance -- it's not purely a technical issue but has huge world changing social ramifications so politics can't be divorced entirely if one wants a genuine meaningful discussion on A.I.

I received an email from Microsoft today about all the Co-pilot advantages, but what struck me was under the data collection section:


"We do not collect data from:
....

• Users in certain countries including: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia,  Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Nigeria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Vietnam. This includes the regions of Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Mayotte, Reunion Island, Saint-Martin, Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands. This means that AI offerings will be available in those markets but no user data will be used for generative AI model training in those locations until further notice."

Looking at that list, I have the impression that data IS primarily collected from the USA (and Mexico! ) There's certainly a lot of countries that have opted out.

Does this mean that when interacting with it, I shall have to use an American accent and use words like 'eraser' instead of 'rubber' and 'check' instead of 'tick'?

Instead of Google or Bing search I am often using the copilot icon in my taskbar on the extreme right. I have found incredibly helpful and getting quick reference to a very relevant article about 90% of the time.

Microsoft added Copilot to Microsoft 365 and increased the yearly subscription plan. If someone doesn't want it they can down grade to a classic version. For me it would be the Family Classic version. I just beat the January price increase. I'm going to wait until December and switch plans. I added the notification to my One Calendar so I don't forget.

Unless you switch your Microsoft 365 subscription plan you will get the price increase. Once again MS makes us opt out instead of opting in.
