When Copilot was first release in an update it showed up on the taskbar to the right of the Start button. I tried it a couple times but disabled it.

A few days ago Copilot appeared again but this time it was on the right end of the taskbar. See, New Windows 11 update moves Copilot button to a more inconvenient location

I tried it again but got really annoyed because Copilot pushed my Sticky Notes to the left several inches. When I closed Copilot I had to move Sticky Notes back over to the right margin. I looked in the settings but found no way to move it back to its original position next to the Start button. Its behavior now was unacceptable so I disabled it again.

BTW, I just looked but can't even find how to enable Copilot again in case I change my mind. What happened to it? As you can see in my screenshot below it is now gone from settings.

The thread title looks suitable for a rant against Copilot. I read it anyway.

How did you disable Copilot? Seems unlikely that you just used the slider in the taskbar settings.

I don't use the icon on the Taskbar. The few times I used Copilot because I wanted to, I used it from the icon in Edge.

It was really a rant against Microsoft for moving Copilot to a place where it caused me problems. I had no problem with Copilot when it was next to the Start button.

When Copilot first appeared beside the Start button I turned it off in the settings. When it came back by itself recently on the far right side of the taskbar I also turned it off in the settings. For some reason after that it disappeared in the settings.

I installed the "reg" file and rebooted. Now Copilot was in the settings again. The default was for it to be enabled. As shown below I can enable it and disable it again. The strange thing is this time it didn't disappear in the settings when I disabled it.

I used Vivetool to remove Copilot.
In 2-3 years, IF they get it working AND it turns out to be useful... I may let it back in.

After a bad crash, co-pilot suddenly appeared on the far right side of my taskbar next to notifications. I didn't even know I had it.

Is that normal?

Copilot is only preview now. Note the PRE on its icon. Hopefully it will more stable and predictable when there is a final release

My guess is that it needed the computer to do a restart and the crash had the same effect on Copilot as a restart.

After I received an Windows update the icon moved over to the far right on the taskbar. I think I turned it off like you show in your post. Unfortunately I couldn't find it any more. How should I have turned it back on?

I ended up doing the registry hack to bring it back. Now I can only turning it on/off in the Windows settings.
