The Microsoft Defender App from the Store installed itself without even asking and was running on top of Windows 11 Security after signing in to my MS account.
I have just uninstalled it again as I do not know what its mission is at this stage exactly. Anybody here has a clue of what this is for?

So this Defender App installed without asking on all of my Win 11 Pro machines that also have Office/Microsoft 365 installed.
Machines without Office are not affected ....

Agree that non of this "should" happen but it did. Anyone else had this (auto) install in combination with W11 and Office 365?

That's weird... should reinstall in both cases - either through Windows Update or Windows Store. It's easier to leave it installed - and just Disable it instead. Either from the main menu or Search for Edit Group Policy Open Administrate Templates from Computer config - select Windows Components > Microsoft Defender Antivirus and Enable - Turn Off Microsoft Defender Antivirus. Or you could take the long road...

Bingo, still don't understand its real mission: "Unlike Microsoft Defender Antivirus, which is a Windows component, Defender for Individuals is now a standalone Microsoft 365 app that works as a central dashboard that helps monitor Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android mobile and desktop devices."

It is a cloud interface to monitor all Defender apps on all of your devices.
In other words, MS wants to monitor it, but it pretends it is for your benefit.

Yeah, MS wants to have a full scan and account of all files on all devices including non MS-O/S connected to one MS account. Very funny. Without even asking! It will stay uninstalled.
