One of their biggest problems is that they don't seem to have ANYBODY on their I.T team(s) who understands about REGRESSION TESTING.

For some people who don't know what this is -- and it can be a big problem in large scale I.T projects as anybody who might have worked on various SAP ERP and HANA systems would immerdiately recognize -- is that in fixing a new defect it undoes for various reasons an earlier defect that was previously fixed. Fixing these problems is quite a costly and unglamourius part of updating software -- naturally most developers don't want to get stuck with this which is often regarded as boring sh*t!.

The concept of Windows itself was brilliant when originally conceived - but software, networking and hardware have moved on hugely.

A real basic problem with Windows is that the GUI and kernel are bound together which means rather than just change parts of the kernel (the GUI should then usually be fairly simple to update - especially if tevhniques like data dictionaries, labels and MVC (Model view controller) techniques are applied. So the GUI just presents screens / labels / text etc with the actual real physical OS code separated into the kernel and task / dispatch manager.

That way also Windows could easily run decently in Kiosk mode or even as a multi-user system without needing full blown server type things. I can't remember it now but Windows 2K3 (2003) and later versions of windows XP (even the 32 bit version) had a hidden tweak that allowed 4 simultaneous connections. !!!

I don't have many issues with Windows until I hit the power button

It may sounds nostalgic but I miss Win 7.
Very good UI, Control panel instead of Settings and more than a decade working without issues or surprises.

Get rid of Efficiency Mode or at least allow it to be switched off completely at a system wide level. It destroyed Chrome based browsers.

This is so true! When I was in avionics development, one of the problems was changing requirements as the job progressed. Many times the director of engineering would want to assign more people to my team so we could "finish faster". He really never truly grasped the idea that would not result in a faster completion, but it sure would cost a lot more in manpower!

I think they fired their test teams a while back. So now they have to use Insider builds for finding and fixing errors.

Are you describing an architecture-level problem? Would a massive refactoring project help for Windows help?

Best thing Microsoft could do would be to quit making the consumer customers beta testers and get rid of the gradual feature rollouts and test in-house. Like that will ever happen though.

We are the testbed for the commercial users. Microsoft even said that once - but I wouldn't waste the time to try and find the quote.
