A.I. is already a thing of the present - which makes this move (Windows with A.I. support on a hardware level) - a normal/expected step. Tho, personally - i don't think they'll cut the support for non A.I. hardware for the next major Windows Update. At least - not like they did with Windows 11 - where officially 7 generation of CPU were cut down from the support list. I think/presume - it will be more like Windows 10 - where if you don't have appropriate hardware the feature in question will be simply Disabled (not even showing as option).

Either that or they'll prolong the support for Windows 11 till 2030 (or even 2031 - if they repeat the Windows 10 retirement policy of 10 year of official support).

A.I.'s current state is somehow similar to touchscreen smartphones shortly after release. The majority of people didn't switch right away (the high costs of a smartphone and the adaptation phase to a new way of using the phone - was discouraging at first), but gradually and eventually... flip phones - kinda became a rare thing. We're more or less in a similar place with A.I. hardware: it's available only with the latest CPUs and GPUs - and quite expensive. Not to mention - the advantage of owning this type of hardware - are currently more relevant for professional users or a specific niche. But when the OS can use A.I. acceleration (support on a hardware level) - the difference in performance will start to show compared to older hardware. Kinda like HD vs SSD, tho A.I. is not just about raw metrics (improving acces time and such) - but also lifestyle change - since it's mean to simply everything (the user interface the way we use the PC). Anyway - we're still in the "small steps stage" - so your next PC won't really come to life right away - this being the main goal of future computing.
