Ok - so basically I have an archaic MS Nat Keyboard Pro which I don't want to change for many reasons, but since the last 1 or 2 windows updates it now crashes Windows esp when using Edge. It stops working completely & pressing keys will sometimes just open up random boxes or clicking a link (with the mouse) ends up just wanting it to be saved rather than opened. Only way to fix thus far has been to sign out/in again.
After 5 such episodes yesterday I asked CoPilot for a fix, which it's given me, but after previous experiences of it giving me a bum steer I figured I'd just appreciate someone running their eye over the instructions in case I end up worse off with maybe NO keyboard usage at all. Personally I'd have preferred to revert back the last 2 updates but it said that was unnecessary, but I'm expecting to likely have more problems as Windows moves ever further away from older devices
So here's the fix in part:
Device Manager ? View ? Devices by connection**- Expand ACPI x64-based PC ? Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System ? PCI Bus
Under each USB controller, uninstall:
HID Keyboard Device
HID-compliant consumer control device
HID-compliant system control device
USB Input Device (keyboard-related)
USB Composite Device (keyboard-related)
Device Manager
→ Universal Serial Bus controllers- Uninstall any USB Hub that disappears when the keyboard is plugged in
Control Panel
→ Power Options → Change plan settings → Change advanced power settings- Expand USB settings

- If you’re not sure, uninstall all Generic USB Hub entries (Windows will rebuild them)
Control Panel
→ Power Options → Change plan settings → Change advanced power settings- Expand USB settings
- Expand USB selective suspend setting
- Set to Disabled
- Shut down the PC completely (not restart)
- Switch off the PSU or unplug the PC for 30 seconds
- This drains the USB controller’s capacitors and resets it
