Having a nightmare with microsoft account/login.live. I accepted the latest windows update 25H2, and on reboot it put me through a set preferences sequence.. to arrive at a login to your microsoft account screen with no skip option. I try my login.live password and it says incorrect, so then I go "forgot password", follow the prompts, get a code on my mobile, and reset the password, which brings me back to the login screen, so I enter the new password, and it says "incorrect password" - so I change it again, and it says "incorrect password". About then I hit control alt delete and select "sign out". I sign back in to Win 11 and at least I'm back in windows except I can't sign in to my email. Going round in circles and now it won't let me try anything because "too many login attempts with wrong password". So, no access to Microsoft account and/or login.live

In case it's useful Reset Password for Account in Windows 11 .

Have you tried account.microsoft.com instead? I know the same exact web may have several names, or maybe the webs are different.

What did you have to set that you couldn't skip? I've sometimes had it but always something optional with a skip link. Did it look as something "mandatory" instead, like some internal config?

Iirc Windows Hello (the PIN unless you have face recognition or fingerprints) is the default. Have you choosen to login with the password instead?

You don't need to answer this here but, do you use a "random" password?. What's advisable, with "random" I mean it looks a random sequence of characters w/o sense, but they're more difficult. Caps lock? I might fail with my passwords seldom, I just retry. There's also a small symbol to display the characters as dots or what they're, that may help if the keyboard keys have irregular working and in other cases. I have never seen a keyboard language change in error (by Windows), but you had to attend some urgent configuration and you had done a Windows Update, what may go wrong although it isn't frequent.

I have never had an MS email address so I don't know if the MS accounts based on such addresses can use different passwords for the account itself and for the email service. If you're using a non MS email address you have different passwords for both accounts (the MS one and the email service or 3rd party account) unless you use the same for ease. Occasionally I've failed here (tried my Google password for the MS account, I have GMail addresses).

Yes, I've tried the relevant options on that page. They are the standard google response.
Yes, as an old fossil, I have opted for login by password.
A mixture of capitals, lower case and !@#$%^&*.

It was just one of a sequence of setup screens after the 25H2 update. All the previous ones had a "next" or "skip".

The login to windows account did not connect with password or pin. There was no skip option or any other alternative displayed on the page. I had already selected skip for every other option page presented. Similarly, I did not want to integrate all my "microsoft products" that I don't use, like one note and such, which was what the login-to-your-microsoft-account was all about. Anyway, that is all too late now. I did try microsoft.account.com, but it would not proceed beyond the capture. I was sure I had the characters correct, but no matter how many times I tried the "next" button did not illuminate. I am hearing impaired, and the audio alternative was impossible for me.

Yes, I know about the dots and the "eye" symbol. That was no help.

After getting the security code by mobile and entering a new password, and told I was successful, I was returned to the same login to your microsoft account page to be greeted with "you have entered an incorrect password".

By the time I did the control-alt-delete and sign out maneuver that got me out of the log in to your microsoft account screen, even though I was back into Windows 11, I could no longer access login live. I have already changed some of my web accounts to my gmail.

Do you use a local account to sign in to Windows 11? If so I've missed that part sorry.

I don't see that the update to 25H2 has anything to do with your problem. A Microsoft account is independent from your Windows installations. I have 4 MS accounts, 2 of them created more than 10 years ago when they were known as "live.com ID" or similar. I use one of my modern ones to log in to both my Win11 and Win 10 computers. I created this account for what it's doing now. The other 3 were created for different purposes as they have now. The oldest one has a gaming or XBox balance (I created it to play a game in 2010 or 11) that I could use to get discounts or advantages. When I re-discovered it in 2023 I got some emails about it. MS accounts have their own life to say it so.

Yes.

It was the aftermath of 25H2, Microsoft trying to get me to log into my microsoft account to integrate their bloatware. The side effect that mattered to me was being locked out of live mail. I'm now changing all internet accounts that matter to me to gmail.

In my hunting around, found this:

One of my friends told me it takes 24 hours for a change of microsoft password to register? Seems like he might be right. After 24 hours I tried logging in to my "hotmail" with the last password change, and bingo. No ''incorrect password''.
