Surface IT Pro Blog:
In February 2025 we released the public preview of Microsoft Security Copilot in the Surface Management Portal SMP. Feedback from preview customers showed that integrating device data in Microsoft Intune with generative AI accelerates workflows and sharpens decision-making for IT pros.
With today’s announcement of general availability for the full set of Security Copilot capabilities in Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Entra, we’re excited to share that Security Copilot is also now available in the Surface Management Portal. Because this portal is built into the Intune admin center, customers can now access the same AI-powered assistance within their Surface device management workflows—making it easier to act on insights, resolve issues faster, and strengthen endpoint security using the tools they already rely on.
What is the Surface Management Portal?
Surface Management Portal is a workspace within the Intune admin center that pulls together vital data and insights on enrolled Surface devices in one place.- Gain insights into device compliance, support activity, applicable warranty or protection plan coverage, and carbon emission estimates.
- Monitor the status of each device, including applicable warranty or protection plan expirations and active support requests.
- Centralize Surface-specific device administration in a single environment.
- Automatically access comprehensive information from your Intune-enrolled Surface devices, which flows into the Surface Management Portal when users sign in for the first time.
What Security Copilot adds
Engage with Security Copilot to gain insights int your Surface device fleet
Security Copilot adds a conversational AI layer that makes it easier to access and act on the data already available in the Surface Management Portal. Instead of building custom reports or navigating multiple dashboards, admins can simply ask questions like:
- Which devices are out of compliance and out of warranty?
- Show devices with TPM disabled and BitLocker off
- Estimate carbon emissions from our Surface fleet
- Faster resolution – AI-generated summaries can guide fixes in minutes
- Less manual effort – natural-language queries replace multi-step workflows
- Tailored insights – responses reflect each device’s live state and lifecycle data
- Stronger security – proactive detection and guided remediation improve posture
“Security Copilot in the Surface Management Portal has completely changed the way I handle daily device management - with all our tenant data and Microsoft documentation in one place, we can spend a lot less time jumping between tools or digging for answers. Troubleshooting is quicker and more straightforward, and even new team members can hit the ground running. Having everything right there in same place just makes the whole process smoother and more efficient.” — Michael Morten Sonne, blog.sonnes.cloud, Microsoft MVP
Built through deep collaboration across Microsoft
Security Copilot in the Surface Management Portal brings the integrated value of Microsoft Surface hardware, Windows firmware, Intune, and Security engineers operating as one team.
