I run Safety Scanner every time I become aware that a new version has been released.

It has never found malware on my PC, though.

The only anti-malware software I have that is continuously active is the default Windows protection.

Rarely, I run the free version of Malware Bytes, but it is not normally running.

It's my thinking that the Safety Scanner is another way to scan if malware is suspected, over and above Defender. TBH, I've never had a need to run it. I have MWB running in realtime alongside Defender and it runs a full scan daily. Along with Defender's daily scan, I feel that is about as safe as I can be in this day and time.

The Safety Scanner uses the same definition files ("security intelligence updates") as Defender, DaRT, etc. You would use Safety Scanner as sort of a second opinion, when you think your current solution missed something, whether that be Defender or something else.

Thanks for the replies !!! SO as in the top post: You would all advise "Microsoft Safety Scanner only scans when manually triggered. Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded." Download every 10 days from the website I posted? Or is there another download way/site?
I'm greatful for your answers.... When I went into Properites of the MSERT.EXE under details: It had the January 2024 of this year. ? After I downloaded from the website (on the title bar) the ver. numbers went up) and the date now reads today.... Thx. again !!
