Missing battery and "edit" buttons in the quick action flyout

I upgraded from Win 10 21H1 to Win 11 last night, everything working fine except the battery and edit icons are missing from the bottom of the quick actions flyout, only the settings button is visible:

1633697378683.png

I had a number of tweaks via Winaero, Group Policy, etc on my Win 10 installation but I have reverted the ones that would probably affect something like this, but no luck.

The actual "Battery" page in the settings app works fine, there's no issues there, and battery info is reported correctly in the tooltip when I hover on the battery icon (percentage, time remaining, etc), so it's not an issue with being able to detect the battery itself either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

That's very interesting. My System One (specs in 'My Computers' below this post) has had the same issue for the past two months, running an Insider Preview upgrade from Win10 to Win11. You're the only other person I know of that has reported this issue. My system had no tweaks before its upgrade, from WinAero or otherwise. It was a 'plain-vanilla' install of Win10.

What are your system specs? You can fill yours in here: https://www.elevenforum.com/account/system-specs

For the edit option, you'll find that it is also available by a right-click anywhere on the flyout. I never found a fix, and have wiped that test upgade to Win11 from this machine now so I can't investigate it any more. Now that 11 is officially released I have restored its Win10 system image and intend to wait for Windows Update to offer it the upgrade to Win11. It will be interesting to see if the same fault reappears.

Thanks for your reply. I posted the thread on Reddit as well (link), looks like there are at least two others who had this issue, one of them who did an update from a clean install of Win 10 to Win 11, so seems like the issue happens even if you don't have a heavily tweaked Win 10 installation.

I have an older Clevo laptop (unsupported by Windows 11 as it has a 7700HQ CPU, but managed to bypass the installation requirements) where I did an update from clean Win 10 to Win 11, the battery icon and edit quick settings icon are showing fine there. But the issue is there on my current laptop (also a Clevo) which is an old and heavily customized Win 10 installation, and I'm not really willing to do a clean install over this as I'm not overly bothered, just one of those things that slightly annoys you because you know something is wrong.

I updated my specs as well on here.

Quick update: I created a fresh user account, and the icons work fine on that, so it's not related to the Windows 11 installation but rather the user account. Maybe this information can help.

Thanks, that could come in useful should mine be missing again when I get the upgrade. I'm almost tempted to go for an in-place upgrade with the ISO and find out, but I want to wait and see how well (or not) Windows Update handles the upgrade.

I have this on only 1 of 3 machines that I have upgraded to Windows 11. I too tried creating a new account and all is working properly there so it is definitely something in my user account causing this. It is not a big deal it just shows something is wrong. I upgraded from Windows 10 21H1 as well and even tried an in place re-install to no avail. Sure hope someone can find out which setting in the profile is responsible for this behaviour.

Someone on reddit found the solution to this issue, just tried it and it worked
Thank you for posting this. My system got offered the upgrade in Windows Update and, as I had expected, my battery % and edit icons were missing again.

1635022337037.png

The Reddit approach seemed a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut...
"...simply delete the key "Quick Action" under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\ and restart your device. It should work but it might be a bit buggy at the beginning, you should wait a bit and if the unresponsiveness is not gone, give it another restart."
...so I looked a little closer at mine.

In the end, I found that just two values were the only ones that needed deleting. Not only that but the effect was immediate, no restart required.

The rogue values were Microsoft.QuickAction.Battery and Microsoft.QuickAction.Edit in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Quick Actions\Control Center\Unpinned
