MS 365 Insider Updates

I've just been updated to MS 365 v 2401 Build(17231.20084) C2R, an Insider build.

However, I am NOT SUBSCRIBED to the MS 365 Insider Programme

Am I receiving MS 365 preview builds because I'm a registered on the WINDOWS Insider Programe (RP Channel)?

Or is this another MS *@?_ up?
Or is there another reason?

Shawn can you shed any light as to this situation?

According to the MS release site, Build(17231.20084) is the 'Current Channel (Preview)' build; Build(17126.20132) is the 'Current Channel' build, which is what I was on prior to this update,

That would be correct.

Preview comes first.

Look to the left of text you outlined and you will see that you're a Microsoft 365 Insider. How you got there? Who knows? I surely don't.

I had to separately register for the Microsoft 365 (Office) Insider (Beta). Although at the moment, I am also running Windows 11 Beta on this laptop.

As a Microsoft 365 Insider, I see the same thing you do:

I will agree the whole thing is a bit misleading.

Yep, I have exactly the same thing and I know I'm signed up for Insider Beta.

Good afternoon, Ian. Will you please check your Microsoft 365 page again? Mine has changed from what I showed in my previous post #5!

This is absolutely unbelievable, and for me, it's pretty obvious that Microsoft is the one who's messed up; not you and not me!

Anyhow, check to see what you're being told now . . . please . . .

As a Beta Insider you get to try the latest and greatest, not sure how it differs from Enterprise though.

MS 365 Enterprise is for companies - no use to individuals.

Frankly, I would not join MS 365 Insiders - I can tolerate OS issues but I need MS 365 to be rock solid.

IMO, reading blogs, most of the changes are pretty esoteric and only of interest to a very small number of users. Problem if you say use new Excel features, any spreadsheet might not be compatible with other non Insider users. I admit that is speculation though.

If you want to use it for testing new features, I recommend you install the Insider 365 version in a vm or dual boot version of Windows 11 (or 10?) - a native boot vhdx file is a good alternative.

You need an existing MS 365 licence to run the Insider version. However, you can install MS 365 on up to 6 pcs (more actually but only 6 can be active). Very few of us use 6 active copies of MS 365 and using one active copy as Insider is no bog deal for most of us.

I strongly recommend you do not use the Insider version as your main version though for obvious reasons.
