Solved MS Office signs in even though I didn't set it up that way,.

Good morning everyone,

I recently did a clean install of Windows 11 Pro 25H2 from 23H2. I also installed MS Office 2021. After that I went into Outlook (signing in) to check my messages. Now, when I go into Word (or Excel, etc.), I am signed in automatically. I have been signing out, but then Windows/Office prompts me to sign in again. How can I prevent this? I previously had Windows (23H2) only automatically sign into Outlook with the other Office apps not signing in at all, but I can't recall what I did to set that up.

Can anyone help me out to set MS Office not signing in automatically?

Only thing is that I am trying to do the opposite. I only want to autosignin into Outlook and have the other Office apps not signed in when I open them. I did try and followed the steps and options to undo the auto sign in, but I didn't have any of the options available when I did.

this has been an issue with office for a long while now (since 2016). you can do two things:

1) sign into and configure outlook, then change your Microsoft acct password, then fix your outlook mail configurations (not the outlook program, just the mail setup). thus the other office apps cannot connect to your account.

2) if you do that, then uninstall and reinstall office, it wont even have them logged in. uninstalling and reinstalling does not blow away your outlook ost, so your outlook should set right back up how it was pre-uninstall.

I can't reason out what @Dacone said about the necessity of changing passwords but I defer to his knowledge on the subject.
That be the case wouldn't deleting and re-establishing the Office credential in credential manager do the same thing.
I can see how uninstalling and reinstalling office might work though since that will create new credentials..

Hi dacrone,

Further to my previous post, I did the password change and account configuration (I think), and uninstalled then reinstalled MS Office 2021 (after a restart). No problems there, but since I had Outlook on StartUp (opens when Windows opens), I had the same problem. In fact, Office did not prompt me for the new password although Microsoft confirmed that I changed my password via e-mail. Ugh, I am stuck. Sorry if I didn't follow your instructions properly.

Okay, I tried a couple of restarts with Outlook StartUp signed on and with it not. It seems that I cannot avoid having my other Office apps signed in once I sign into Outlook. Is there another way to get Outlook "separated" from the other apps?

My computer updated to 25H2 yesterday. I have Office 2021 Pro Plus. Word 2021 and Excel 2021 are not normally signed in. When I run Outlook 2021 it automatically signs into my Outlook email account. This seems independent of Word and Excel because they stay signed off.

I don't understand what you mean by setting. Am I misunderstanding something?

If I am signed into Word 2021 I can Sign out of it.

It will stay signed out unless I select Sign In

That has nothing to do with Outlook 2021 which is always signed in when I run it.

Update:
When I last posted I had Windows 11 Pro 25H2 (26200.6899). Word 2021 was not logged in.

After that I received a new update Windows 11 Pro 25H2 (26200.6901).
When I checked Word 2021 it was logged in again and connect to OneDrive. This must be OneDrive cloud since OneDrive is not even installed on my computer. I logged out of Word 2021 again.

I suspect this must be related to the update because Word 2021 still says logged out after I rebooted Windows,
