MSRP vs. Scalpers

Hi, I am needing a new graphics for my system but the prices for what I need make them out of my reach unless I use a credit card Ughhhh.
I'm hoping someone has good information about when retailers like Amazon will have these cards for MSRP prices?
I need a AMD Radeon™ RX 6900 XT or better; current prices for those are pushing $2000.

I doubt you'll get a decent price on a card like that one regardless of vendor.

Join the club! xD, I have seen people get cards for decent(Not Msrp) money but i think its a right place right time right person kinda thing. Few and far between though.
I'd expect issue to continue well into next year for sure based on the way its went.

The best guesses I've heard from people who follow the industry are from late 2022 to 2023. There are people speculating that the next-gen cards will be coming out by the time the chip shortages recover.

Honestly, if you want one of these cards soon, your best bet is to buy a new computer with a card in it.

Yeah, its going to be a long time yet. Unfortunately, the issue with scalpers and such is not going away. I would be hard pressed to believe that anything GPU will be readily available in all of 2022.

Best Buy regularly sells cards at MSRP, but you have to stand in line overnight in order to guarantee a chance to buy one.

I only saw one video card that was worthless, compared to what I have already, when at the West Lebanon, New Hampshire BestBuy on October 10th.

Yeah, I don't consider that to be readily available. I know of someone who stands at microcenter to get cards too, but I have a job and life responsibilities, which doesn't make that an option.

You have to stand in line and get a ticket, there will only be 150-300 cards available and probably 1000 people in line. They are all sold within an hour.

They will have those cards at MSRP once they become pretty much obsolete.

"Obsolete" may not simply mean that the cards have been replaced by a new generation.

Example: I have an RTX 2080 Super. A "Turing" card, not the current "Ampere" generation. (Lower performance than a 3080, but the same feature set, AFAIK.) The prices I see at NewEgg for a new 2080 Super are more than double what I paid for it, in late August of 2019. They are all from third-party vendors, and more than a little crazy. (I think one could do better on eBay.)

I hope that the supply/demand issues sort themselves out before the current high-end cards go "obsolete".

Unfortunately it is not based upon what products are actually worth - it is based upon what people will be forced to pay for those products.

There is hope. It's now possible to buy a Ryzen 9 5950X CPU for just a bit more than the original MSRP. That wasn't true a few months ago. However, I doubt that the crypto miners are buying lots of CPUs.

Ok I found the AMD XFX RX6900 Merc at newegg for about $1700 and they're calling that a special sale. Lol.
I am being forced to pay the ransom. My system graphics are underpowered. I need this upgrade.
I hate joining the club of people who are emboldening and encouraging this dark side of free enterprise.
After making this purchase, how do I estimate a fair resale value? Not that I will be reselling it but this purchase
carries me close to the beating heart of criminal waves overtaking our culture. I become complicit with them.
My mainframe will be so happy but I will be depressed. Ugghh.

Yep nv only shipping to select bestbuy stores
Closest one for me is 40 miles in the worst congested area near Houston called woodlands.
So that kills any chance of getting one not sure I want one though nv cards are only mediocre.

One way: check the "sold" listings on eBay. Pay no intention to the current offers. Some of the sellers are asking prices that will never be met. Or Amazon, although some of the 3rd party sellers there are also asking unreasonable prices.

Scalper's prices peaked some months ago. At one time, nVidia 3000 series cards were selling at 3X original MSRP. They've fallen back to more like 2X. Such a deal.
