My CCleaner Tweaks...

I use CCleaner 5.78
I installed it offline, and I blocked it and it's updaters in MY firewall.

And... since it was purchased by Avast, I also entered these lines in my HOSTS file...
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\HOSTS

I've had "zero" issues on Win 10 or Win 11 with this version.

My settings and the only parts (RED box), of CCleaner that I use...

For those sites I want to keep the cookies for... like my ElevenForum login... I use the Cookies filter in CCleaner.

I "run" CCleaner which will empty the list on the left. Then login or set preferences on the site I want to keep the cookies for. Then I look to see what items are "now" on the left side. Then I can add those that are necessary to the right side. CCleaner will not clean the cookies on the right side.

There's probably 7-8 sites where I keep the cookies.

I understand all of that except the cookies part: "There's probably 7-8 sites where I keep the cookies."
Looks to me as though there are cookies on the right numbering waaaay more than 7-8 sites' worth.

I keep my subscription to CCleaner to support the work. Misguided? Maybe. But I try to support software I like.

I use only the subset of features you use, but I zero-out the left-hand menu, so that I don't have categories that I ignore anyway. And I use a much smaller set of targets in the Registry Cleaner than you do. The ones I don't have checked don't bother me, and mostly will do no harm if left alone.

Take a site like ElevenForum. You have the site cookies, the login stuffies, and 1-2 other cookies.
That's why 7-8 sites will make a big list on the right side, like that.

Lastly, some cookies are... doubles. Like... tenforums.com and www.tenforums.com
They'll "both" need to be added to the right side.

The easiest way to see for yourself, is to do this...

1. Close the browser
2. Run CCleaner's ...Cleaner
3. Open the browser and go "just" to whatever site you want to save the cookies for.
4. Open CCleaner and go to: Options > Cookies and look at what's now on the left side.

I think we may have wandered away from the true (and noble) intent of this thread, and for my part in that, I am truly sorry.

No, I'm not!

Perhaps, though, we should continue with a discussion of the wise and conservative use of CCleaner, which can be, when accompanied by effective prophylaxis and regular professional care, very, very beneficial.

I tried installing this exact version (v5.78) of CCleaner (using the OP's link) on Win11 with OP settings and hosts file entries. I get a delay with the blue cursor wheel for about 5 seconds on EVERY launch. I did try the portable version of this version 5.78... same delay at launch.. Of course, you need to disconnect from the internet when you launch for the first time or it IMMEDIATELY updates to the latest version regardless of the HOSTS file entries in place.

I reverted back to my portable version 5.86.9258. It also has a huge delay on launch, but only if you haven't used it in a half hour or so. (If you relaunch a few minutes later, it will launch immediately). CCleaner has become the biggest PIA on my Win11 Lenovo Legion. I can't find a non-bloated/non-avast version that will launch (and run) with no delay. On my windows 7 machine, I use version 5.40 and it launches INSTANTANIOUSLY every time, but you can't run 5.40 on Win11.

You need to block CCleaner and it's updaters, in whatever firewall you use.
