Given we are now being pestered by many sites (not just adult) for age verifican by a poorly implemented law which puts onus on sites to derive methods, it is already clear there are many different ways implemented i.e. no common method.
We are all concerned about security and do not want to give credit card details etc. Do we really believe all sites when they say "we keep your data secure".
I think the UK government should have implemented an age verfification solution.
I do not see it beyond the realms of possibility that I could simply visit (say) UK driving licence site time and ask to be issued with an age code. I would enter such a code when asked by a website, and website would verify age code with a UK government app.
The code could be valid for say one month reducing risk of children getting hold of it.
The code solution would be anonymous and no use to hackers.
Of course, one downside is UK government would know what sites were asking your age I guess.
My point is that the one organisation that knows my age is the UK Government and it is them insisting on age verification, so surely the onus is on them to provide a safe solution?
PS mentioning driving site was only an example.
In the end, all this hotch potch nonsense could have been avoided if the UK had implemented an ID card but this was rejected but most know the driving licence is effectively an ID card.
