Age verification in Microsoft Teams Free coming soon

 Microsoft Support:

Coming soon: In some countries and regions, Microsoft Teams Free users may be asked to verify their age to continue using the full Teams experience. This helps Microsoft comply with local laws.

Verify your age

To continue using the full Teams experience, verify your age with your Microsoft account.

After completing age verification, it may take up to 24 hours for Teams to reflect your verification status and update your account access.

Why am I being asked to verify my age?

Some countries and regions require online services to confirm a user’s age before providing access to certain Teams features. If you’re in one of these regions, Teams may ask you to complete age verification.

What happens if I don’t verify my age?

If your age isn’t verified, you’ll have a more limited experience in Microsoft Teams Free. Some features may not be available until age verification is completed, including:
  • Recording meetings and calls
  • Using Copilot and other AI features
  • Accessing community features
What happens if I’m under the required age?

If your verified age indicates that you’re a minor, you’ll have a more restricted experience in Microsoft Teams Free. Some features may be unavailable or limited based on your age and local requirements.

You can learn more about what experiences are restricted for minors here.

Who needs to verify their age?

Age verification may be required for users in certain countries or regions where local laws require Microsoft to confirm a user’s age.

Not all users will be asked to verify their age.

How will I know if I need to verify my age?

If age verification is required for your account, you’ll see a prompt in Teams with instructions for what to do next. You can also verify your age with your Microsoft account.

After you verify your age

After completing age verification, it may take up to 24 hours for Teams to reflect your verification status and update your account access.

During this time, some features may still appear limited.

So even though I am well over 18, I will just accept a more limited free Teams functionality than disclose my age to anyone outside of financial institutions (if they ask) and medical care providers.

Blame your government then if you are in one of those regions.
