Solved my new-old HDD doesn't work

How do you intend to connect power to a drive inside an adapter. Also, even if you could do it, you would have opposing power sources which would definitely conflict. IMO you would be taking a big chance of possible Mobo damage or at the very least destroying your hard drive.
Now,if you are using an awkward adapter like this, you can supply power with a splitter off the power supply. But why would you want to since it has its own AC power adapter. Something like this was the first thing I ever used long ago. https://www.amazon.com/AGPtek-Drive...pcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A1155GBV4DPEXU

However, I can not understand anyone wanting to use such a mess in this day and time when you can get this. https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Cable...apter+for+3.5"+SATA+HDD&qid=1671213355&sr=8-3

or if you want to make your own external hard drive inside a case , something like this. https://www.amazon.com/RSHTECH-Encl...o+usb+external+hard+drive+case,aps,189&sr=8-8

Device Manager recognizes it as Toshiba and also the correct model number MQ01ABD050V. I'm guessing that tends to say that it's not a probem with the adapter. Uninstalling it via DM, then reinstalling gives no benefit.

Win11 says the driver is okay, but I don't necessarily believe that. The HDD is from 2015 and Toshiba refers to it as "specialty".

I can't fnd the driver at toshiba.com. Win11 update finds nothing. Dell update finds nothing.

I looked at 3rd party sites, but all they have are *.exe downloads to find and automatically install drivers, which I don't trust. I tried one to just identify the needed driver, but Malwarebytes blocked that as a PUP.

The seller at Amazon is Bipra, they are in London and I can't call them.

Looks like I have to return it. Some others that I see at Amazon say delivery would be January 4th, almost three weeks. The real delivery time is probably later than the promised time. Maybe Walmart has something is stock.

My bad I meant Sata to USB Power which would connect to the power Sata and would connect to two USB ports to apply the power for the 3.5 drive

Then again, before buying I had carefully looked through the Amazon Q&As and reviews, and there is not a boatload talking about how it won't be recognized. A lot of these have been sold, there are 2000 ratings.

However there is one report of no ID and then a suggestion to download a free program called "minitool".

HOLY CRAP the Pro free trial found it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It says it's all unallocated. Time for a new thread.

Just use the free version not the trial. If minitool sees it then right click the drive and select 'create' and follow the prompts.

Thanks, Fabler. But I've got the trial running, I can't use that?

It does not have the create option though.

For installing on used drives I use the free GPARTED LiveCD [download .iso file] or the same program on a Linux LiveDVD to full clean drives and make them as shipped then let Windows partition and format as needed. GPARTED can also create partitions on drives then format them, can do what Windows can't, create up to at least 500GB as FAT32 [largest I've done] but it doesn't get around the 4GB single-file-size limit of FAT32, would need to use exFAT or NTFS for Windows. I have USB 2.5" portable drives, a couple WD MyPassports [750MB and 1TB] plus a couple cases I've put drives in to use for storage like these, my next one will be the top of these:
