OS
Windows 10
windows 11, 21H2 (build 22000.675)

I am into setting up my new laptop now, and want to bypass the login/pin/password screens. I've found a tutorial that is great but I ran into a problem when I couldn't change the settings if in the Additional Settings, the option that says "For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for MS accounts on this device" is turned on.
I went over to turn it off but it is not highlighted so I can do so.

I'm probably missing something (like a sandwich shy of a picnic) but I can't figure it out. I'll add a snip below, and show the tute I'm following  Thanks in advance for any help

Hello, :)

If needed, you can use option 2 below to turn off For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device. It does require to be signed in to an administrator account to turn on/off though.

Using netplwiz in option 1 below is an easy way to have Windows automatically sign in to your account at startup.

Hi and first thank you for helping :) Yes, it's grayed out, Im just logged in under my name, I don't think I'm automatically considered Admin. No school/work account, just personal, home use

Thank you Brink, I didn't know about using netplwiz. I'll check out your info/tutes again, and just tell you your directions are so excellent and easy to follow, thanks so much. Not sure which will be easier, option 2 or getting Admin rights, can't remember, but I'll get that done as well:)

I am listed as Administrator @Brink and @johnlgalt

I wanted to add that both my name, and Administrator are listed in "user accounts" but when I login it doesn't list Administrator, just my name.

You can double check using an option below to help make sure your account is an administrator type if needed.

I went into Option 1 again to make sure I did it all according to direction and see I don't have the same option to "remove". Here's a snip from your tute and what mine looks like @Brink I'll work with Option 2 now :) and let you know:

It looks like you have removed your PIN causing the For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device setting to be grayed out afterwards. It will be grayed out if you do not have any Windows Hello sign-in options set up for your account.

As a test, use set up to add a PIN to your account to see if you are able to turn off the setting above afterwards. You may need to close and reopen Settings afterwards to see the change applied.

I haven't disabled my PIN or PW, I need both to sign in Brink. Also I see that my user account window doesn't give that option to check or uncheck box for users to not have to use a pin, etc. Do I need to make a separate Administrative Account?

Ok, I have to find it again but basically when I was selecting who/what I wanted to have access I had clicked off on two things. I should have payed attention, but one was Microsoft something or other, and you won't want to put that in the tutorial, lol!! I'll be back :)

I found it, here's the path I used @Brink, Settings>Privacy & Security>Account Info. Below that I had turned off Email and Accounts, Microsoft Content. Don't ask me why, I was just confused about the whole "access" think  When I turned both back on, the option to turn the "For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device" was highlighted again. I'm clueless obviously, but it worked, lol!

Interesting. That setting doesn't seem to make any difference for For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device on my system, but glad it sorted it for you.

It'll be interesting to hear from others if they get the same results as you.

Ok, it's the only thing I changed I'm pretty sure. Thanks for all your help, now I still have to deal with the "Like the image you see" and bypassing login. I'll work on it myself for now, gives me something to do, and learn. If I have trouble I'll look through your tutorials first

There doesn't seem to be any info online about Windows 11 login screens and password except by adding 3rd party app. I'm ok with that, and set up to allow it but rather look here for directions, feel safer  so I'll check your tutorials now.

PS I got it, all fixed, no login and no image choices to slow me down at startup  I had the whole netplwiz thing but when it came to entering my password for the Auto login, I didn't do that in User accounts, oops!
