Ok so, I was wondering if there would be anything I could do to my router to make it more secure, make it run a bit faster, etc. Yes, it's p/w protected. I don't let anyone have my WiFi Information, unless it's family. I guess basically i'm looking for tricks or hacks to make it more usable. If any of that makes sense. DD-WRT does not support my router, unfortunately, or that would have been the first thing I would have done.

I know little about such matters. If you have the latest firmware for your router, to protect against hacks, that may be the best you can do.

Yep and I do. I check it for updates about once a week at least! I never know when Netgear is going to put out a firmware update.

Adding VPN (for security) to capable routers will only make it slower. But if you have a fast speed to begin with, it wouldn't matter. A VPN is a good thing.
Routers are only like "terminals". What goes in, is what goes out." Speed depends on your type of connection (fiber or cable, and internet speed plan). If you want to have faster and stable connection, use wired connection. It is the most reliable type of connection, speed-wise.
Wireless signal quality will vary depending on existing interferences inside your home.
