New phishing scam

Got a phone call from phone local service, said couldn't reach my modem. Joke was on them. I don't use phone-line DSL for Internet, Wireless DSL Modem has been fine for several years but did replace the Wireless Router couple months ago due to old one having security issues and no firmware update for it. Did have an issue with my ISP's site/Domain 2 days ago and no others but a few hours after reporting it someone else had the same issue, didn't take long to get it fixed.

I am fortunate to never receive those types of calls, as my phone provider, has some kind of block on my phone, that allowes only text/calls from my contacts list.

Folks that pull this kink of crap, should be taken aside, and have their butt kicked up around their neck. (no offense intended).

Yes, but only if you can help the Nigerian prince with some money for plane fare. :)

I keep getting these emails, supposedly from my bank, willing to help me unlock, my recently locked bank website account (which isn't locked).
All I have to do is go to the .bitly link (like my bank website would ever use a .bitly link to begin with), they are giving me.

bit.ly and all shortened URLs are especially dangerous because they conceal everything including malicious links

Email scam for Netflix doing the rounds again, says there is an issue with your last payment, looks genuine, with Netflix branding etc.
Until you double check the link, it goes to Neftilix, asks for confirmation of payment details, obviously don't follow the links provided.

Well, a bank maybe, but a florist for example, could create a seasonal marketing link like https://bit.ly/Flowers_For_Mother's_Day which unfortunately could also be malicious click bait, that's not so obvious.

Edit: Do NOT click on the link, I didn't load the link with anything, but somebody might. The apostrophe ' makes it an invalid bit.ly URL, but you never know what a bad actor can do. I just want to show how dangerous shortened URLs are

Actually Banks are getting better at security these days -- If I buy anything online with various credit cards using a computer --e.g laptop or desktop for a purchase of an item costing over around 100 EUR then before the transaction goes through I get a text of a code to phone and have to enter it on the computer to approve the transaction. I don't mind that 2-stage process at all but for the 2 people on this planet who don't actually have a mobile phone that can receive text it could be a bit of a nuisance.

What is a nuisance is how some banks are taking "Moral issues" by refusing to allow any gambling etc sites to be accessed with their credit cards or even worse with debit cards where it's your own money. I can't see anything wrong with small gambling on Horse races, or other markets on perfectly legitimate platforms like Betfair. What's wrong with a little bit of responsible betting -- can be a bit of fun in these troubled times -- not everybody who places the odd bet on a Horse is a "Gambling addict". I suppose next they will refuse to allow me to order Alcohol from online grocery sales.

I get such calls from time to time. I answer them and keep them busy with an idiotic conversation -- Makes them, at the least, pay for the call.

For me lately it's been emails. Your Norton subscription has been renewed for $199, your Coinbase account has been suspended, Your Apple iPhone invoice for $999, etc. I just click to report them as phishing. I know my many credit monitoring sites (free due to various data breaches

) tell me my email is on the dark web. Oh noes, love letters from the dark web!

Lately getting notices about "Unable to deliver package" from some nonexistent delivery company. Asking to approve address and bank account. Sure, of course not suspicious at all, thing I hate most is somebody taking me for a fool.
Checked the link from a Linux live on a stick (no way to be tracked like that or access any other storage or OS) and it rung all kinds bells and red flags.
It's an very old (from 1990's) email account with very simple address I still use for scratch e-mail easy to guess. Hotmail and Gmail easily dismiss and cut short such attempts.

A friend of mine fell for a scam - enter this competition, and give name and address and you could win a largescreen TV.

I told him you should never enter this sort of random internet pop up.

Four weeks later, he called me as a largescreen tv had been delivered to him!

The last two email scams I received were for direct debit payment conformations in the amount of 8 or 9 hundred dollars. Both shipping addresses were in Honolulu Hawaii.

Unfortunately my bank does that in order to tell me about their offers. And the worst thing is that they use external agents to bother people, so I used to get calls from random numbers. But when they called and asked me for my details, I just refused, then they complained, that they can not give me any offers until they verify it is me. I said, that I am OK with that. They have not called ever since.
