I use Telegram for all chats be it on my phone, computer, MacOS. Perfect integration, sharing full quality photos/videos, super private as you can delete the entire chat history from the other party's device with a single click, and it has excellent video/audio VoiP chat

Skype is fine for me it works well for one to one and the people I know use it; I tried teams but I didn't like it for my use. Works fine for my daughter's online language teaching though. It is no use whatsoever if no one you want to talk to has it. It's like sitting on your own in a conference room. It horrifies me that with telegraph somebody could delete content on my machines.

I think 99% of people now use Ms Teams or alternates like Zoom instead. Over the last few contracts I've done absolutely Zero of the clients uses SKYPE any more and most of the work is fully remote so lot's of video conferencing etc. Ms Teams is actually surprisongly good (for an Ms product).

I remember the old "Net Meeting" app on XP which also worked quite well (for its day). Teams is a decent product now - and works also on Macs, and Linux so users don't have to be on Windows to use it.

My main problem with Video conferencing though isn't the software but often the hardware. Video has improved beyond all recognition (maybe too much in some cases !!!) but the average quality of the audio in the microphones people use is still nothing short of appalling. This surprises me considering how much trouble and often expense people go to in getting a decent audio set up on their machines.

Cheers
jimbo

This is so true. Onboard audio has not evolved at all, in fact in my case it has taken a step back. Since Realtek decide to use multi-channel USB audio codec that embeds a USB 2.0 controller which is causing numerous headaches with new high end motherboards.

There was even 2 firmware updates to fix a sound issue but there are still compatibility issues with other USB hardware.

So far, I haven't figured out how to master Teams, so Skype it is.

In fact, when the pandemic first hit and closed our Senior Centers, our Genealogy and Windows 10 groups didn't miss a beat in our studies.

I had just finished introducing my Windows 10 students to Skype when the Center closed. The next week, we were studying Windows 10 via Skype!
